It depends on what profile you are gunning for.

If you are gunning for a Equity Research or a Fund Management job, then CFA is ideally more needed and respected. However, if you are aiming for a Risk Management profile, then FRM/PRM may have a slight advantage.

Actually they are non-competing degrees and add to a person's knowledge because CFA is not quant-heavy but FRM/PRM are quant-heavy compared to CFA.

Tumtum.

The best solution: Go for CIIA. It is one year course and simply superb. But you need to give one full year for this course studying 3-4 hours everyday. Recently we have inducted BSC/B.com + CIIA guys as analyst. Infact if you are CIIA, then you get exemptions for PRM.

No way GARP and PRM is better then CFA. GARP and PRM are sort of add on qualifications above CFA, MBA , CIIA, CA etc.

Cud u give more info on CIIA pls. Im going through buks on price indicators and oscillators. Will soon join a pvt. institute 4 further technical analysis, prepare an extensive ER report n hope to get a job of jr. technical analysis this way in the next few months. Ppl have been telling me that it pays around 15k, and fresh grads do get a chance. Please pour in ur valuable suggestions.

CIIA is good course because it can be completed in one year and it is very much in demand. The subjects and papers in CIIA are interesting too. Please visit: http://www.icfai.org/icpe/main/ciia_qualification.htm

Are you taking about BLB institute ? If that is what you are talking about, then you need to be prepared to work in very small firms..like local area equity firms eg chugh securities, Ragunath Agencies etc. I dont think these firms can pay you 15 K.

Cheers,

Im still not clear abt the eligibility of CIIA exam. It looks like its an add-on to CFA.
As a fresh grad with sm knowledge of technical research i dnt expect to b picked by an mnc where only CFA+ 3yr. experienced r considered. Neither do i want to depend on BLB's bullshit placement cell. Minnow firms employ on a basic salayr + commission basis n thats hw overall it may go to 15k. But i wonder abt my career progress by starting to work in a small firm.
As i said i have sm buks and studying well equity resarch. Hope that in a knowledge based industry my knowledge will b considered
.

hi Tumtum,

First of all thanks for your valuable insights into the field of FIN. Youare a CFA as u mentioned!! thts great!! So have you cleared all three levels??
I am considering pursuing CFA from US next Jun, Can you please help us know what material you referred. If possible give us the strategies you followed, the material, books and notes you referred to, and the order of study as in where to start from etc?

Also if you could tell me how r the job prospects after an MBA(m pursuing one from an IIT this year) + a CFA(along with the MBA) both in India and abroad.

Looking forward to your response,

Thanks in advance,
Aniblitz

Anil.

I am really sorry, I cant help you out on this one because I am a CFA from ICFAI and not CFA Institute, US. For knowing more about the US CFA, please look at this website www.cfainstitute.org

In case you want to know more about the ICFAI CFA, then please refer to www.icfai.org
You may also refer to the thread on pagalguy named
(Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from ICFAI_Hyderabad)http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/career-discussions/14266-chartered-financial-analyst-cfa-icfai_hyderabad.html

Alternately, you may contact our member "crash_test_dummy" to get more details on the US CFA.

Regards,

Tumtum.

Also, i will like to add that if you are going for CFA from cfainstitute, give lot of time gap between registering and sitting for exams.

For example, Dont register in Mid february for june level 1 exams. It is sheer wastage of money as proved by one of our members

Cheers,
