completely disagree with these ratings...
you cannot say Intel is a very good place to work for a guy in Coding..( this is just an example) because he is not in their main business stream..he is just a cost center resource..
similarly, Wipro Spectramind...is it good for all the people who are working...nope..
this kinda clasiffication actually depepnds on what is your role in the co...
infy at 20 and there is no Wipro in top 25....no doubt Mr. Premji saves moneyyyy.. --Surya

arun - bhai - marwaoge kya :P
Edit:
My comment above was - incase someone view Arun's post in negative light - which would reflect badly upon the companies he mentioned.
TLD: The BW results are based on a survey conducted at a large number of companies - and based on their response. Just wanted to clarify that these ratings were not devised by some group of editors/journos based on their convictions/etc.
TI was at #1 last year - with FedEx coming 2nd. Their positions have reversed this year.

go csc go!! gotta agree with one point bout csc, guys--personal touch!!
they started the placement process by 8 in the morning and finished it by 3!! they then presented a gift to each of the place com members and a t-shirt for all the selected candidates!!! its not like i am short of a t-shirt or anythin, just that for a 21 year old ,wearing a tshirt with ur company logo is a thrill :P !! but a lil surprised that they r ahead of infy, wipro, cts!!!
one pt. of difference between business today rankings and busi world rankings is that ,bt concentrates more on the 'behemoths' if u will and bus world concentrates on the sub 5000 people organisation!!
wat is ur opinion guys, would u work in a monolith or a small company!! btw, a loud hi to arun!!

Firstly, I would like elucidate that my comment was meant in a lighter vein and in no way reflects my opinion of the poll
Sapient *is* a great place to work and its no surprises being in the top 10. I have had my time with the big companies (let me save them the embarrassment by naming but its a $1bn company) so I know what I am talking about. There is no corelation between being a big company and being a great place to work.
I completely disagree with Ramnik and The Last d'anconia on this matter.
(1) The Wipros and the Infosys do NOT and I repeat NOT make great places to work. If you have worked in any of these companies and wish to disagree then I think we have some contention for a healthy debate. But otherwise.........
(2) Regarding the title. This is a great place to work survey ACROSS all titles. A janitor is a janitor is a janitor. If he is in Microsoft or Chinchpokhli Computer Services it does not matter. Everyone cannot be made the CEO so it becomes a "great place to work" right ? I do not see any logic behind this argument either.

PS: Arun II ?????????? Yeh kab hua ? Kaise hua ? | Arun, I agree with you on the first point....yes, there is no need that these big reputed companies are great places to work...I know it presonally...
second point, no ,...I completely disagree...any company is good for you if you are in their main stream business..ie ..you are a revenue earner for them..
o/w if you are just a cost center resource..it is not a great place for you...
hey Zango...I know buddy, how they arrice at these...I have my bro and roomie working in Mindtree which is at 4th place and i know pretty well abt their work cultures...
and I recently heard someone saying that Wipro isnt there in the listing....because Mr. Premji didnt want to part with some USD 1000...
I dont know abt the veracity of that statement but gives good material for gossip... --Surya

'Bro Arun...continuing from where u left....
this is another piece of info on the best companies....sources from Rediff.com
Tata Consultancy Services along with Bharti Televentures and National Thermal Power Corp was on Friday adjudged among the best employers in India by leading global human resources management firm Hewitt Associates.
Other companies which figured in Hewitt's list of 25 best employers were Procter & Gamble, Glaxo SmithKline, Tata Motors, Satyam Computer, Intel, Indian Oil Corp, Johnson & Johnson, Dr Reddy's, GAIL, ST Microelectronics, Philips, Mindtree, Eureka Forbes, Agilent Technologies, Tata Steel, Biocon, Hindustan Petroleum Corp, EI DuPont, Oracle, Birla Sunlife, Wipro Spectramind and Gillette.
Bharti CEO Sunil Mittal was chosen the most popular or 'Best People's CEO' among its employees.
Procter & Gamble received the most admired HR department's award at a function in New Delhi.
The five best managed workforce were in Godrej Consumer Products, IFFCO, Parry Confectionery, The Leela Palace Kempinski and Jubilant Organosys, according to Hewitt.
"The best employers inspire and maintain a passion for outstanding achievement. They not only pose sharp focus and clarity but also share it simply and effectively with the employees besides looking for building sustainability of customer relationships," Hewitt managing director for Asia-Pacific, Mick Bennett, told PTI in New Delhi.
Eight of the 25 best employers were in the IT sector, while four were in the FMCG and rest from energy, telecom, manufacturing and other sectors.
Of the top 25 companies, three were from the Tata group and four were public sector undertakings.
This year 272 companies with a workforce of 700,000 participated in the Hewitt survey, which makes it the highest participation in any geographical location.
The study conducted by Hewitt concluded that the best employers viewed talent management as an important investment, focused on building a high performance work environment, articulated the elements of their organisation's culture, used rewards as a differentiating tool and drove leadership behaviour throughout the organisation.
Hewitt identified the 25 Best Employers based on in-depth questionnaires, which was later analysed by a panel of judges.

| Work satisfaxtion -

Guys,
Your satisfaction in work depends on a lot of factors -
for instance -
1. What level of the organisational hierwrchy you are in -
if you are there at the bottom, chances are you are crying out for help.
But then, most of us, have to start at the bottom of the pile.
2. What your perceptions are about whether you are "made" for this kind of job
3. What your future aspirations are
So, you see, its very relative. And it all boils down to , what the company does to serve/satisfy/fulfil these/and other needs of its employees.
Big huge companies, have a pyramid structure. So you can guess, what the environment will be at the bottom.
Also, now because of liberalisation and all that, we will see a huge rise in the number of employees being employed by a lot of companies -
so although , the employment will rise, the standard of living will rise, the general mental health of the employees may go for a toss - wide spread disatisfaction will be a norm.
