Hi,

I am an IT Professional working for over 3 years . But i have over last few years dream of entering into the world of Finance by enrolling myself for a couse such as CFA , but i have been very circumspect due to my background in sciences
Can anyone suggest whether a course such as CFA is feasible for someone who doesn't even know the basics , or one can say ABC , of Finance.

There are 3 levels.. Level one is held in dec n june both.. but level 2 n 3 only ld in june . So you have to clear all these 3 levels . But in order to b a CFA charter what u need is 4 yrs of work-ex in d field of finance n u earn a Charter.

About ur ques..- how to start preparing for CFA as I have no experience in this area?
Its a self study program So, wen u register for d xam .. within a week u will get d study material.. For level one there are 18 study sessions.. According to CFA website .. atleast 250hrs should b invested while studying d material.. and each session should b given atleast a week.. But u can customize ur schedule according to you capability..
I am providing you the website link of CFA institute - CFA Institute Home

Hope this Helps

Hi Ross,

Whan you say "So you have to clear all these 3 levels ." does this mean that the aspirant has to take up both the level 2 and 3 exams in JUne. Rephrased - if i register for june 2010 say do i register for all the exams at one shot or is it that i need to take it year on year?

The CFA institute does not list the exam centers for India as yet. Could you please shed some light in this area.

Thanks!!

U will have to register for level 2 after u clear level one and similarly for level 3 wen u clear level 2..

as in ur case- if u register for level one in june`10 .. and u get thru that and if u wish to go for level 2 test den u will have to register for that(i.e June 2011) and so for level 3 after clearing level 2. means u will be enrolling for level 3 (in june 2012), if u clear level 2 in 2011. There is no such compulsion dat u should take d other level in the next consecutive year...You can take as long as you need to complete the program, and there is no limit to the number of times you can take each exam.

Yeah, there is some case pending over there.. exam center will there be india or not , that will be only decided after d hearings of d court.. U can choose kathmandu or any other nearest place as a center by then. Coz if the exam will be going to b held in india.. den u can change the exam center 75 days prior to the date of the exam.. else u will have to take the test at the place u chose..

Hope this helps
-regards

I am planning to take my CFA level one in June 2010.
My only concern is the amount of Math involved.
Since i am from a commerce background i havent been in touch with my math roots for the past 6 years. so should i take this test?
