I am just curious to know has anyone else started the preparation or I am the only one to take an early dive into the mess.

Hey Ajay....

I guess we are in the same boat..

Am also hinging on my admit to NMIMS (fingers crossed) on applying for CFA L1 in december, 09.

Regarding preps I am going through Schweser notes book 2 & 3 as of now.

Also can someone intimate me whether an FRM degree would also make sense?

I found that the FRM curriculum is kind of a subset of the CFA one, mainly concentrating on Risk Management and Risk Rating. So if I want to get into Hedge funds and the likes post MBA, would doing both CFA and FRM make sense or one of the either??

PS: Obviously am gonna opt for Finance as my specialization, and I do not have "related work experience".

Peace..

Well FRM is all about risks, risks and risks.. CFA is very well recognized then FRM.. Curriculum wise giving FRM and CFA will be very difficult to give not to consider MBA studies with it..

Yeah obviously things may not turn out as anticipated. However, would you be able to comment on my chances for a career shift in this scenario?

My background is of Economics Honours, and have been working in IT (Oracle Apps Financials) for the last 2 years. Hence I do not have "relevant workex" as per any finance firm, say crisil/irevna/DE Shaw etc etc.

So would an MBA in FIN and CFA / FRM allow me to get into these kinda instituitions?

Insights invited....

PS: My interest in the field grew through equity analysis when I started getting into the cash market during my college days...

Peace..

C what I have seen across the MBA college, many do MBA just to shift their lines. So your MBA dream is justified.
As par as relevant experience is considered, they are counted at the time of placements. You might get a little less salary compared to a guy who has 2 yrs exp in fin industry. CFA/FRM will bridge this gap.. Basically this course is structured in such a way that u will learn wat they have learned in 4-5 yrs.. thats y CFA is a 3 yr course..
Don't worry we both are sailing in the same boat.. :-D

friends I say why dont we prepare a google group and share any problems or doubts along with a specific time bound plan so that no one in the group goes astray and preparation is always on track.I for one seriously dont think that any coaching is needed atleast for first level and if people can do complete mba course online than I think this idea atleast deserve an honest attempt.
