This could become a very nice thread where ppl working in different IT companies could give us an insight into their companies.

we would get the information from the horses own mouth, this would help us freshers to make our career decisions.

thanks komalam

cheers!

There are different categories....If you want to go for a decent standard Indian IT company which rules even over MNCs then its Infosys for you with good package, good work environment but strict in process and high pressure. If you want to go for the word 'Mass' then its TCS with a bit low pressure but low salary compared to Infosys. If you want to go for work culture then Mindtree is another best company to look for. But salary is the only issue over here and for that you are getting one of the best work culture next to google (Continuosly ranked in top 5 in Great Place to Work Survey for which Infosys can't even go beyond 15th place). Accenture, CapGemini and IBM, Oracle are typical MNCs with a reasonable footprint in all the categories but of course at the cost of job security wheras in Infosys, TCS and Mindtree its bit more secured.

If I'm in the situation of choosing companies I would go for Mindtree. I'm not interested in high salary but rather I would go for good work culture, job security, decent role. Infosys achieved TCS position in 20 yrs and Mindtree is following the race. But in this recession not sure Mindtree can handle as Infosys and TCS does. Waiting for their Q4 results. If Mindtree can withstand even in this recession without layoff, definitely one can consider this.

HCL another $4bn company with a steady growth. Further their 'Employee First' program seems to improve their work culture. But it all depends on the division you work for. Anyways this is definitely a good company to consider

If I were to prefer any IT company among the others, I would suggest to go for Infosys at least once in ur working career. It is company worth working. Here u get lot of industry exposure, u work with senior ppl without getting a feel that u r junior to them.U get many oppurtunities to show
case ur innate talent. But it also makes u more commited towards ur job.One thing is for sure if u work for a company which has it's brand name associated with it along with quality of work then u gotta really work hard to prove ur mettle.Client satisfaction is of immense importance. If u r given any work u have to wind it up without fail.
Also, average age of Infocions is 25 years so that makes the work ambience friendly and juvenile.I am pouring in all this gyan because I am working with Infosys. I am not being prejudiced over here but teling u the fact which I observed working with Infy. All other companies are also gud
based on different criterion. Some may excel in some standard and rest may excel in others. Every company has it's pros and cons. One more gud thing abt Infosys is job security. It will not kick u out directly. It gives u lot many chances to improve urself.Hardly u would have heard abt Infosys is laying off it's employees.I would say that Infosys is worth giving a try.Let me know if u need any other information.Infy Rocks

To add to what my fellow Infoscion said (I too am an Infoscion), Infosys is not just an IT company, it's a community of people- employees, their families, clients, the engineering fraternity and the society in general. Apart from your normal job responsibilities, you get to explore different dimensions of yourself- your latent talents and skills, which helps you to evolve.

CSR is an integral part of almost every Infoscion's life, and trust me by involving yourself in various initiatives apart from IT work, you definitely grow as a human being. Not many companies can provide these opportunities like Infosys does.

folks , i would say therez a 2 pronged answer to this question...
for someone starting as a fresher - being part of a brand-name like Infosys. TCS or Satyam [ouch - ] definitely helps...

but for someone who has spent a few years in the IT industry, the profile being offered should in my opinion be of utmost importance. For ex, handling an entire client account for a smaller firm (say IFlex/Mphasis) would be better than being a face in the crowd among Infoscions - what say?
