FRM 2009 Aspirants-GARP - 03-02-2009, 08:40 PM

Hello frnds.. I need an Advice from all u guys..
Myself Pravin Agarwal, doing my MBA in Finance with specialisation in Bankng & Insurance will complete in May 09.. I have a work ex of 23 months before MBA.
I want to give FRM this year..
Now i m in 5th Trimester of my MBA.. Last trimester(March09 to May09) we have only
a project.. so instead of doing a project we can start working in the company also, if we are placed...

So i just want to know, shall i study for these three months and do the project from home.. so that i can study properly for FRM these three months..I m also doing Msc IT 3rd sem correspondence nd have my exams in july09..
shall i join a job and prepare for FRM simultaneously?

I m interested in only Financial job, bt currently i m geting an IT Job ( software testing job to precise), bcoz of my Background and previous work ex..
So what do I do I m totally confused.
If I join the IT job, then is it possible to shift to Finance sector from IT, when the mkt improves.Or shud I wait for ne financial job and start preparing for FRM…and then start working once I complete my MBA in June.
Is FRM is worth enough to take such a risk of not accepting an job..

Friends I really want to fix this problem, so plz help me..
Would be glad to give ne other info if required to give proper answer..
Waiting for replies frm all u guys.

Also is coaching necessary for FRM?
which are the institutes which provide tat in Pune & Mumbai??

Thanks in Advance.

I am not too sure if I can answer this question well...But I will try my best providing the insight that I have.

1) You dont need too much of prep for FRM if you are an MBA. As in you dont need 3 months of dedicated study for FRM only....may be one hour a day for 6 months is more than sufficient, but then it varies upon person to person.
2)I believe, rather than joining an IT job in ur last tri sem, you can wait till your MBA gets over and look for finance job. But please keep in mind that scenario for finance is really bad and you mighht have to do an IT job only after MBA,but its wortth the wait.

I guess its more about you. how you can manage things and studies is something that you have to look into.

Regards,
Ankit

With FRM cleared you can surely switch from IT to finance. But this will take time. But my personal opinion is as it is market is in bad shape...so go ahead with ur IT job and get back with ur FRM degree when the market bounces back. And abt the time needed to study FRM, I agree with previous reply to you that it depends on the individual.

Not heard about videos for FRM.
And these notes come by around mid-may.

But there is very little change in syllabus. so you can very well start with one of the volumes now.

EARLIER the BETTER !!!

Thanks ,

do you think ,syllabus doesnt change much ? I compared 2007 with 2008 and found substantial changes like inclusion of full 8 chapters in econometrics (Gujrati 2nd edition) and few more ,correct me if i am wrong ,that apart I guess there wont be much changes in FRM Handbook ..anyway will be starting with 2008 notes

I havent started yet due to some work commitments ,I might as well start from April-May ,however I have downloaded 2008 schweser notes and FRM Handbook 4th edition ....in between I will just read few pages here and there ...especially ones related to my work

what about you ? how are you planning to go about it ?
