Ohhh...this thread seems 2 b dead since a lot of time...
I feel its a good thread and may appeal to a lot of aspirants.
Hence, i take the opportunity of pasting below an article by pagalguy.com only, in Jan 09....which throws light on the orientation of people towards Communication Management.

Also, let me illustrate a few facts, namely Communication Management is broadly divided into following parts, namely:
1. Communication for Education
2. Communication for Information
3. Communication for Social Cause, and
4. Communication for Business aspects

Media & Mass Communication Covers Education, Information and Social parts while Advertising, Marketing, Sales fall under the Business aspects

Looking up at various threads in Pagalguy and also searching for "Communication Management", we discover that only MICA is d GOD COLLEGE being looked up at wherein we do have other colleges as well.

I am listing below the following Colleges which i researched for, which offer this course of Communication Management. The list comprises of:

IIM-A
Manipal University
SIMC, Pune
MDI, Gurgaon
XLRI, Jamshedpur
SIMSREE, Mumbai
NMIMS, Mumbai
Times School of Marketing, Delhi
Delhi School Of Communication, Delhi
AICAR Business School, Mumbai
Welingkar
IES,Bandra
IIMC, New Delhi
MICA, Ahmadabad
Jamia, Delhi
Film & TV institute of India, Pune
Manorama School of Communication, Kottayam
Times School of Journalism, Delhi
NIT-Trichy
NIT-Allahabad (MNRNIT)
TISS, Mumbai

I also take the opportunity to ask my seniors to kindly check out the validity and please help the aspirants of this field with their ventures.

Thanks in advance....

"But post-1990 developments have created spaces for smart students as well. Smart students are those who are not consistently good performers, but are multidimensional. They do very well in CAT, for example, (90 percentile and above), but not nearly well enough to make them a member of that elite club of 3000 candidates.
Earlier, this group of smart students would get into B grade management schools and then work under those who graduated out of better schools.

Not anymore!

Today, smart students have opportunities. Huge opportunities

One such exciting opportunity is communication management. Communication management refers to managing an array of creative industries such as advertising, television, radio, event management, direct marketing, entertainment media, corporate communication…

Why is communication an exciting area of work? Let us quickly understand this.

It’s creative: You work in the realm of ideas and you work with a team of creative people. That requires finer sensibilities and nuanced managerial skills.

It’s challenging: Yes, all management and marketing jobs are. But here the challenge comes from constantly working on new ideas. The advertising agency never gives us the same slogan twice, the newspaper editor never works on the same news story twice. Each assignment demands a refreshing set of ideas, a new beginning.

It’s immensely satisfying: The satisfaction comes not only from the rewards your employer offers you. It comes from public recognition.

It’s expanding: The communication sector is growing at a rapid clip. Ask yourself: how big was Internet when you were at school? How big it is now? How many radio and television stations were there when you were in school? How many are there now? And by the time you graduate out of a communication management school, how many more would there be!

These are the hallmark of communication industry. Compare it with any marketing or management job and you would realise how different communication management is.

So, smart students make smart choices! If best management schools are not adequately equipped to accommodate them, they choose to ride on a new wave. The expanding communication sector is one such wave. The benefit of this sector: Your career graph goes up steeply, as steeply as those who have graduated out of the best management school.

Today, the various sectors of the communication industry are faced with severe shortage of qualified and trained management professionals."

with regard to MDI, the Communications Department here has evolved over the past couple of years to a stage where it may be offered as a specialization for the main PGPM course. But I don't think there will be a separate degree programme for the same.

I can check for details if necessary
