Re: CFA Level 1-June 2009, anyone ? - 27-09-2008, 11:12 PM

Hi Guys,

I am kishore. I am planning to take cfa level 1 in 2009 but not yet enrolled.

I have a quick question. I am from engineering background and can please confirm whether I am eligible to enroll into this course.

Also I do not have much exposure into finance as I am into software field. Will the syllabus covers fundamentals of the finance and understandable for the persons from non finance background?

Thanks,
Kishore

Thanks guys for creating this thread. Really appreciate ppl here clearing doubts for fella puys. We are having our summer placements and guess what ... My Cv wasnt even shortlisted :( by many companies... Iam still to get placed ...

Anyways tomm is a big day for us -- the final hearing on whether CFA test can be conducted in india or not ... fingers crossed!!

Few Queries from my side too.

1. People who have registered, can you tell me how many seats are left for Nepal test center ?

2. If i choose nepal as center, and later if it is allowed in india .. then can we change the center ? wat will be the charges ?

ps: Read in earlier post that we can change center for free of cost ... is it confirmed ? can u provide me with the link where this is mentioned

Thanks
Varun

Yippeee i also did my registration, now feel a part of the CFA gang..

Answering your questions...:
1. I dont think while registering, it any time showed how many seats are left in Nepal centre, so we cant tell you anything about that. (why do u need it btw)

2. yeah it is possible to change the center to india after the India is allowed as a center. i dont think there are any charges. (dont remember any charges being there this year.)

Hi Kishore. Ill be frank with you. CFA is a very tough exam nad only for those who are serious about an career in finances or business management in general. I am also from an tech background and i presently work in a software firm. I decided to take up CFA b'coz i was absolutely prepared for a career in management from the very beginning.
About the course. I have just started with the materials. Some of the parts, even certain simple concepts, are very difficult to comprehend because we as technocrats are unfamiliar with such knowledge...but it is not that impossible. Some of the syllabus have already been covered by us previously during our engg career.
1. Talk to your friends about it.
2. Eveluate the amount of time you can dedicate to the CFA preparation after your daily work schedule.
3. Ask yourself is it worth the effort and does it comply with your career aspirations.

If all the answers are +ve...Hey baby no more wating get ur self registered and join the roller coaster ridffe to CFA hell.

Re: CFA Level 1-June 2009, anyone ? - 06-10-2008, 11:44 AM

Hey everyone,
I aspire to take the CFA L1 exam in June just like all of u. I had a query, since the exchange rate of USD/INR is at a high. I intend to register for the exam a little later (when the exchange rate drops a bit in a month or two).
As i would be registering later I would get the study material later, for the moment I have gotten hold of Scweser study notes for the Dec 2008 exam. I just wanted to inquire if these are sufficient to start studying. I might be with just these (and without the CFA material) for a couple of months.

Pls provide insights as they will assist me in making a more informed decision.

Thanks and Regards

Hi,
The scheweser material is extremely good material, not only to start your p[reparation but also to guide you and help in retaining much of hte intricate CFA curriculum throughout your preparation.

As far as the regestering of the exam and the change in the value of the US$ - With the kind of aggressive financial steps that the US govt is taking dollar wont come down to the prior value - keep in mind that the cost of registration keeps on increasing as the date of the examination getz closer - Get the material ASAP.
