MBA marketting after MS(comp) and 3 years ex

Hi folks,

I am in a bit of career dilemma...Let me tell you abt my background first...

I did BE(Comp sci) and then worked for a big Indian IT company for some time and then went ahead to do my MS in Computer Sci and IT Management from a UK University...

As of now I have BE + MS (its 1 year in UK) and almost 3 years exp

I am currently working in London now for almost 8 months...and considering the pound/rupee conversion I am able to save much more money every month than most people in India earn. So its not a question about money. But the problem is I think I am not a technical person and more like administrative/managerial person...I do not see that career path unless I do an MBA. Sadly that how IT industry works...and IT manager would perhaps just end up approving timesheets and sucking to the clients.

But the question is what I want to specialise in...I definitely do not want to do it in Finance/HR/Ops...and I am more inclined towards marketing...

I know I am thinking about this late...but I think with experience you know what you want to do...

Hence I would like to know is it worth leaving a decent job in UK to do MBA in marketting...Will I get good returns and will I start again as a fresher as I dont have a prior experience in Marketting or would my experience of 4 years (I ll be 4 years ex by the time I start MBA) in IT be considered.

Also all my experience has been IT in financial services...money market to be specific...if that could help.

Is this risk worth ? Also I wont be doing MBA from a mid or lower lever college...it will be one of the top ranked ones.

Well, if you are going to be doing a MBA, I am sure you can use your work ex as a leverage for finding jobs .... say marketing in a tech firm or marketing in a finance firm as well..... even though you have worked in IT in the fin industry, you have knowledge of your specific sector and bank in general, whcih is I believe good enough for the requireed knowledge, everyone usually joins as an associate after MBA incase they donot have any lateral entry ...... once your 1 yr associate training is over, people start going up their career with diff speed based on their own potential.... i don't think you are at any disadv.

Ya I was also thinking along the same lines actually...that the technical exp might be helpful in a certain way...but I am not very sure...I need to calculate everything before taking a risk...I haven't exactly zeroed in on the colleges...I wudnt be going through the CAT...it would be GMAT...I am gathering all the info before I start analysing it. Are you in Said ?

Also inputs from people who are already doing Marketing or working after doing their MBA in marketing would definitely help.

Nope... I did my masters from oxford.... i haven't applied for an MBA yet
