I have completed B.Tech Biotechnology from SRM unviversity, Chennai. I am currently working in the department of toxicology of a reputed pharmaceutical company. I wanted to work for a couple of years before I could decide on pursuing a masters degree. I was confused whether to do a masters in my core area or do to do a managment program. But once I started working, I realised I am not meant for research and that I am really interested in the managment part.
Now, given my background is it advisable to get into a general management course or should i try for a specialized MBA? I am really interested in marketing and advertising, but will my 1 year work experience in research be helpful in any way? It would be great if someone could guide me.

there can be two options for u mba(biotech) but this will limit your field and as u have indicted u r more interested in marketing and advertising. so general mba is better option but then u really need to have passion for marketing because at all types of interviews be it before admission or while applying for job i will be asked the question why did u change ur field. once uget into mba u may feel like changing ur seecialisation also like i wanted to take up marketing but now i am getting attracted towards finance more just i will have to prove my caliber for finance coz in end ppl will see ur work not ur background

Hey thanks a lot for the reply... wat u said is true....i mean once u get into the program u could change ur mind...so i will keep my options open...n regarding mba (biotech), i second ur opinion...it narrow downs ur scope...could i know where u are pursuing MBA?
@vikramnaval
mba(biotech) and general mba with graduation in biotech are almost equal, in ur case u even have work ex. the second option is better according to me because after getting into marketing or finance u wont require much of ur knowledge of biotech......nyways i am in ICFAI business school, hyderabad
