I am engineering student and from past 2months I have been applying to finance firms(entry level posts) from past 2 months but still no reply from them. One would not want to include kumble in their team if they have murlidharan.Same case applies here.Every one is redundant in takin engineers in entry level posts in financial firms.

To answer in ur own analogy , NCFM certi's wont turn a Kumble (non-Fin) into a Murali (Fin).. however, it/they may make you edge past similar fellow leggies (BE with ur kinda work-ex)..
Companies usually don't hire non-MBA, non-CFA techies (with tech work-ex) into Fin Services.. simply 'cos of the sense of insecurity (attrition) and resulting resource (time spent in training) loss.. moreover, the typical pay-scales for a fresher (for Fin, u'll effectively be a freshie) n other benefits are not as lucrative as in the IT sector (with work-ex)..

Chances of getting a break shall increase, but shall still not brighten enough, unless u go for a clutch of papers..
And yes, for some specific profiles, some of the certificates are mandatory..

To be honest, sitter of a paper.. u ought to take it to agree with me
I think, even if u r a newbie for such stuff, 2-3 days of going thru the book twice, and taking the online model paper shud suffice..
@worthless.. "clutch of papers" == some certificates/modules
Profile-based modules - Securities Mkt, Derivatives, AMFI Advisors, Depositary Participant, Capital Mkt Dealers, Info Security Auditors, Commodities, Compliance.
CFA definitely has much greater value than these certificates.. there's no comparison, actually.. CFA is a long-term course n u get a shot a year (3 levels in <=2 yrs being the optimistic scenario), while these are module-based exams n u can take them wenever u want to.. to CFA or not to CFA is a bigger decision too, because of the monetary and time-wise commitment it entails.. and wen it is clubbed with MBA (i.e. during MBA), its not an easy way ahead.. ppl sure do it, but one has to decide for oneself whether justice can be done simultaneously

Hi,
Some of these exams do act as a licensiate exam, if u want to work in Indian Capital Markets. So that makes them mandatory to pursue.
Although these certificates dont give an edge to your profile, but u will definitely fall out - if you dont have these certificates.
I am damn sure, majority of your batch mates will be having these certificates, so go for these exam to have a level playing field with ur batchmates. So dont think twice and enroll for these exams.
Some of the must gives are
1. Derivatives Market (Toughest of the whole bunch)
3. Securities Market
4. Debt Markets
5. Capital Markets (NSE Licensiate exam)
6. Depository
2. Mutual Funds (AMFI Licensiate exam)
Try to score above 85% in all the NCFM exams that u give.
cheers,
Shyam
