Thanks...it may really sound strange, but I really don't know what I "want"
to do...I have been doing s/w, and I have no problem as such doing it my entire life. But not that I am a passionate computer geek...Regarding finance, I dont know will I be passionate about it or not. Some ppl tell me its a 15 hr a day number crunching job which is bad...others say its a mathematics oriented field which is good.. All this confuses me..Actually I was never an mba enthusiast. But after writing CAT I realized I have a good chance of making it to top IIMs. That has triggered this thought process.
Anyway, seems nobody has actual details of pckgs from IIMs. | | | | | The Following User Says NO Thank You to Abhiinfix For This Un-useful Post:

"I am a s/w proffesional with 2.5 years of wrk ex in a top mnc. I calculated a decent score in CAT(140) and seeing on websites it seems I should be getting IIM calls."
Boss, i guess its a bit to premature to talk about joining IIMs at this point of time. You still have a long way to go...getting a call, then converting the GD/PI amidst strong competition. Once you get a final call, then you can think about joining...Trust me there is more to life at IIMs and life after IIMs than just the $ salaries!
Sorry if i've offended anybody.
Cheers! | | | | | | | |

Anyway, seems nobody has actual details of pckgs from IIMs. | if people say mba is not just about money, then please most of us are not being honest about ourself. Most of us do join mba for quick money. the package you get after an IIM depends a lot on your past background and how you spend your 2 years at an IIM. and believe me the average starting package from an IIM is close to the best for a software engineer (the one you get in exceptional cos). and if you already have reached those cos., there is every likelihood that you may end up with an above average job from iim which can be just about anything. there is a huge variance in salary packages at iim, hence average isn't a nice indicator at all.
most packages quoted are just ctc. but the details of above average packages are not known. the various components of package are typically the same across most industries. however, bonuses are substantially high in i-banks ranging from 50% to 300% of yearly gross. so in terms of money, mba jobs from top instis would definitely score over most software jobs.

As I see placement data of various IIM's none of them mention, is it gross or CTC. My current gross salary is 9.2, I get 10-15% bonus, and some 1 L of full stocks every year. Non cash perks(like insurance, travel etc extra). I also have an option to move to US with 80k $ USD(gross). Now I am in a fix, should I join IIM's, if selected or should I not. To be frank, I am not passionate about either fields. I am ok developing s/w or taking mba job, whichever pays me better. Can somebody tell me are these figures (like 13.6 avg salary from IIM -A) gross or CTC's. What exactly do these salaries look like, how much is variable, how much fixed, what all is included etc. If somebody can give exact advice should I be joining IIM's, it would be nice. Btw, one thing is sure I am not a marketing kind of guy, and sales and marketing is not an option for me. | Agree with what Priyanshu said ....
dont think you can achieve a substantial increase in Pay unless u end up in an IB or a Consult from A B C ...
If you are looking for long term job satisfaction and growth ... maybe u shd consider joining one this time ... or of course the best would be to think about it more and join an Ivy League School ...
When in any b school .. no1 can assure you that you will get the avg or above avg or the highest salary .... so dont go on those figures ...
Shd say .. its high time we just stopped putting up these numbers to lure students
