As much u deserve. Atleast in my company i did not see any discrimination in terms of salary b/w developer and testers.
Let me give you the current market situation which would make things more clear.

My friend who is in testing field @ XYZ ( Indian MNC ) is earning 6.5 lakhs he is having a accumulative work experience of 3.5 years. Developer in same company with this amount of expe wil also be making same amout of money. Look buddy money is secondary if are the best in market you will get what you deserve.

Re: Software Testing Career - 25-07-2007, 01:08 PM

Nowadays A Tester has more respect than developers...

My friend is in Protocol Testing and he is getting offers upto 12Lakhs CTC with 4 yrs exp for a product development MNC.

This is possible in development as well but chances are very less because the openings are very less....

In my company for a particular module to develop if we need 1 developer then to test it we need 2 testers.... this is how the system works.....

Hi ,

I have query about the Software Testing. Iam from Non IT background(BSc) PCM. Iam workin in BPO from past 4 years. I want to make career in IT.

Can anyone suggests from where I can do software testing courses in Mumbai and Which are the tools having demand in market? Is it worth to do Software testing courses with duration of 2 months?

I mean IT companys recruite people only with people with Engineering degrees or having MCA. Do this companies recruite people who do certification courses but do not have technical degree?

Re: testing vs dev - 16-09-2007, 12:49 AM

Hi everyone,

i have been selected in a mnc through campus placements last month. they have allotted me Siebel technology, as i was intreasted in persuing carrer in testing rather than devlopment i talked to them and they agreed to put me on testing but have told me it wont be changed again if i want to now.
everyone i know and the frnds in company are saying that dont go for testing and they are giving the following reasons for it.
1) slow growth
2) lower salary
3) very less on-site oppurtunities
4) most of the testers in out company are bca/bsc graduates and me being B.E. from a premier engineering coll in delhi.
5) boring /monotonous work.
even the company hr people are saying that we would advice u to go for dev and not testing.
lemme add here that i would be put on MANUAL testing if i choose to take testing.
now i am in a fix coz testing attracts me more. i have out of the box thinking , and destroying the application is more fun for me rather than creating one ).
i would be greatfull to you if you could guide me a lil

thanks in advance.
Swati.

The following thread is quite informative : http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/career...e-testing.html (software testing)

I think you need to be clear on certain things first. "Testing" as a career is way too generic and you claim they have put you into "Siebel technology".

a) There is no such thing as "Siebel Technology" ( or that maybe their terminology for the language in which Sieble was developed ). Siebel is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Product currently "owned" by Oracle ( Is that your MNC? ) . I really don't see much development going on in that product (I know some core people who are/were in charge of it from India. But don't quote me on it though ) ) If I were you I would ask the HR to clearly tell what kind of work you will end up doing ( Not that I expect them to have much idea about it or even if they do be honest about it but is at least worth a shot!

b) The kind of work a "tester" would do in a Product company is largely different from that of a software company. Having worked in both and been actively involved with the testing team and process I can vouch for that.
