Starting studies on corporate finance from a lawyers' perspective - 17-04-2007, 06:23 PM

Hi,
I've been admitted to the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, one of India's premier law schools, and I intend to work as a corporate lawyer when I graduate.

The problem is that in order to source an internship with a good law firm, I'll have to demonstrate my "commercial awareness", and this is where I need help on two-points:

1.) Are there any books on corporate finance (not too technical) that you'd suggest so that I get a firm grounding on how mergers, acquisitions, capital market issues, etc actually work...from a more generalist rather than a purely financial view.

2.) How can I keep abreast with the latest developments in the field of corporate finance internationally i.e. any magazines, newspapers available in India that can help in this regard..(I reckon things like the Wall Street Journal should be good? but do you get tht in India?)

Thts basically all.

Awaiting responses.
Thnx.

Hey thanks for the reply, but the link you gave relates to a thread on a discussion of CFA problems....tht's not really wht I was looking for, since I'm not interested in financial analysis, I'd only like to know how corporate financial transactions work in real life, as I've mentioned in my first post, from a generalist view.

Nevertheless, thnx again for ur reply.
