need ur help..Actually my sis who is in 12th std wants to pursue her career in tourism industry..
I want ur help regarding this..what are the career prospects in this field..n what are ifs n buts related to it...Plz elaborate more on degree courses n what are the things to have focus on..
will it b worth going in this field..n how much one can rise related to career in this field..plz throw in some light as m at total loss.. plz if possible also elaborate on the good institutes offering courses..

Career in tourism is upcoming and on rise as the sector is sunrise with all states and Indian govt giving focus on tourism. typical careers are with co.s like Cox-Kings, SOTC, Kuoni etc. Careers range from tour guide-India and foreign, admin, finanace & forex, corporate account mgmt(for large corporates with huge travel needs), business development, partner and supply chain management.
Alternative careers are in hotel and resort/hospitality mgmt in 5* properties.

typical education reqd: BHM or Diploma in catering, applied nutrition/hotel mgmt in either govt or private instts. Most big grps like Taj, Oberoi have their own schools and tie-ups.
Master in Tourism admin after grad is also viable option.

let me introduce myself before i give any suggestionz..
i was a science student at 12th (BPC).. latr choosed Tourism & Travel Management...
its me in my Final year of Gard.... i am doing Tourism and Travel Management final year.... i don't wana do my masters in Tourism as there are very few opportunities.... i got MBA in HCU and i'm happy wid it...

yes!.. ther is a bright prospects for tourism in india... but it may take dew more yearz.... right now the Tourism gradz are not getting good offers.. though ppl say.. Tourism Industry is BOOMING.. etc...

few yearz back Sonia Gandhi inaugrated.. NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TOURISM AND TRAVEL MANAGEMENT (NITHM) in Hyderabad... many guyz and gals joind it and paid huge fee... when it came to placements.. itz nothing.... we don't have good faculty.. we are offred jus 8,000 to 10,000/- per months..
after having paid lakhs of rupees as fee... no one wil like to work for jus 10,000/-.....itz the fact...
now you decide for yourself..

if your sis got good personality.. i mean good luks, height, language.. then ask her to go for Airhostess.. or els.. its better to do any IATA certified course like AIR TICKETING...etc

i think, its better to do HOTEL MANAGEMENT... i am not sure about it.. but i feel..it is better than Tourism Degree..

i guess hotel managment can b the only option that looks lucrative otherwise i shd ask my sis to take a pass on this...
