Thanks | Hull book wont make sense until you go thru prerequisite courses of Financial mgmt and financial analysis, managerial finance, Investment banking, portfolio management and mutual/other funds. Derivatives is a final term MBA course ppl take after covering all courses mentioned above. start with Prasanna chandra/van horne on FM and then progress gradually.
SAS certification in business (module 1 in abt 3 months) folowed by SAS Financial cert (1 year+ goal) will help you in future to rise in financial analytics field.
Keep reading eco times, outlook money, WSJ and similar newspapers/magazines. keep track of finance world. scout websites of top 10 IB's and banks to get a hang of different offerings and markets they operate.
It will be a gradual buildup process. In due course finish for CFA (US) Level-2 by 2008 end or so.

As I advised start off with only the first 7 chapters and then see if you can do more.Take ample help from the internet sites like investopedia are grt resources to brush up your concepts slowly.Even then it is not very easy and you will need at least 3-4 months before you start getting a hang of the concepts. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to rajatb For This Useful Post:

Thanks bizskul and rajatb...though i do not see application of the "financial analysis" subject in derivatives that much but i feel i need some prior knowledge for the derivatives because its completely alien to me...I'm aiming to finish my CFA quant course and corporate finance course beforew i apply in the banking sector and i think i wud be able to learn derivatives and related concepts in a much better way if i move to a finance field. and also i've got a book named "heard on the wall street: quantitative question guide for finance interviews", has ne1 of u gone thru tat?is it relevent?
Btw @ bizskul i could not find the two sas certifications mentioned by you i cud see only the base, advanced sql and warehousing certifications on the site.....it wud be helpful if u cud guide me on that....
thanks I was born intelligent nd i didnt let education ruin me....

But a preson from non-finance background {also not from IITs etc], wont get an opportunity to get into Quant / CDO / Portfolio Management / Equity Research / Leverage Loan Market etc.
I guess Vault notes- I banking will be a good read, at this stage.
Also, I agree to bizskool. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to konqueror_vivek For This Useful Post:

Hi,
I am doing my MBA from BVIMSR college (MMS actually as it is affliated with Mumbai Univ).
I am a BE in IT and no work-ex.
I was intrested in doing Systems, but now confused in systems and finance.
If anyone has done an MBA in finance with BE as background from Mumbai univ, can please shed some light as to what r the future prospects and other details.
