Working in Dubai - 04-11-2006, 07:59 PM

Hey Guys,

if i were to relocate and work in Dubai, what would be the salary to quote? For example lets say i am getting a Offer from Max Hypermarkets, as a Floor manager for 2.75 CTC in Bangalore. Take home is 20000 rupees per month. Then for the same job in Dubai, what should i quote, taking in to account cost of living there??

What are the major expenses in Dubai???What should i look into when i sign the Offer letter??? Any issues to be probed further??? I heard that the employer there takes away your Passports for no of years..
Anyone who is in Dubai or have an idea of Dubai plz give some idea...

Thanks....

Dubai is fastest growing tourism market. They are building world's tallest building, world's largest and biggest hotel (Asia Asia 6500 rooms) and world's largest shopping mall.

The prices have soared in dubai in last 2 years. The biggest expense in dubai is rental accomodation. If your company is giving you accomodation, then a minimum salary of 3000 dhs sounds good (37000 Rs). Make it sure, it is quality accomodation. Some Employer's accomodate 4 people in small room.

If your employer is not giving accomodation, then you should expect 5500-6000 dhs every month (Rs 70000-80000). Half of it will go towards your rent.

There is a retail boom in dubai as well retail boom in India. I feel in 3-4 years time, retail, hotels salary in India will rise fast and there will be negligible difference between indian savings and savings abroad.

Yep buddy, go deep in to the contract before going, if reqd thru a lawyer. you need to have their labor/equivalent ministry clearance to work there. plus its an autocracy with little or no legal recourse so be careful. also never deposit passport or any originals with employer/agency.

Localites(residents) of Arab origin are less educated but more preferred for better jobs. further they follow a leisure work culture, with less of professionalism (not applicable for Indians/non residents ).
also there is racial discrimination as an european/American with white skin will get paid more for same job in same place/loaction, even in professional co.s and jobs.

their laws mandate that outside SEZ/FTZ's all business should have majority local partners. all contracts and official papers have to be in Arabic(translated). hi focus and respect for local culture and norms. thursdays half day & fridays weekly offs (depending on co.s), 99% co.s follow friday offs. work hours depending on outside temperatures.

abt 80-85 k of Indian money shd be optimum if u get 20-22 k here. chk their UAE embassy website for further details.

Working in Dubai is the same as working in Mumbai/Bangalore(work culture terms). As far as the expenses are concerned take it at 4 times the INdian rate.
So probably a salary hike of 4 times in number terms makes it fine.

Hi,
My fiance is workin in dubai so I do know a cuppla things....min salary to survive-6000 dhms(without company acco)...you get one months paid vacation every year includin air tickets....he says that the people arent very well educated, its jus like a refined version of india, even though companies take ur passport, its illegeal for them to do so so u can protest against it...the weather sucks over there...the laws are very strict...it costs a lotta money to call home(india )....u get only 1.5 days off...u gotta work on weekends...racial discrimination is quite dominant esp when it comes to gettin a job...u cant sponsor a family or a spouse visa till the time ur salary isnt 4000 dhms...the roads rock..they are jus like the way they are in the US....malls are overtly priced...lotsa indians over there too...acco will cost you 1000 dhms(least)...hope that helps....best link for ya to look at
