Hello

You can go to GARP - FRM - The Certification Recognized by Risk Management Professionals Worldwide and see historical passing rates and other information on the exam. Also GARP does not release the individual FRM Exam scores, as per the FRM Guidelines at www.garp.com/frmexam/guidelines.asp which state "Test results are given on a Pass/Fail basis only".

Additionally, the registrant agreement which you will sign before taking the exam states "I further understand that the specific results of my examination will not be released to me for review after completion of the examination and I will receive only a Pass or Fail notification."

Passing scores are determined as a ratio of the absolute score to the average of the top 5% of passers. You are not penalized for a wrong answer. The test results analysis that will be provided to you will allow you to see how you did compared to others that took the exam.

Thank you,
GARP FRM Team

Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP - 05-05-2008, 09:41 PM

I went with some other aspirants to IQFI office.
Their classes will be at somewhere at churchgate.

Frankly speaking I wasnt so comfortable.
They are first timers and didnt seem to exam oriented.
It could be a taking a chance.
The positive factor of more time could prove to be negative if time is wasted.
Faculties as told by the coordinator are FRM designation.
Still who doesnot want to go fast & just want to supplement studies with some sort of training, may go for it. By conversation they looked adjustible being first timers.
But nothing is committed from their side.

Those who really wish to take off & then wish to look for the ground where they stand, may like the Pristine way.
Pristine as all comment will be more exam oriented. But looks little fast.
They may not be putting much emphasize on basics (I doubt as I am not so familiar with Quant as have not practised much).

Faculty wise I dont have any idea.
Just heard Mr. Parminder in Pristine is good in Quant.

I didnt comment on ACE3 because first I dont have any idea. secondly they seem more money oriented. Their fees is very high.

From ur Analysis IQF definitely provides more days on FRM training. It would be a good idea to visit their office in Mumbai, before u register for the course with them.

Pristine is Good too, and theres one more Ace3levels.

Ultimately it boils down to How much effort does one put in, At the ends it would be us and not the Classes that would make the difference

Cheers,

Shyam

Hi Guys,

I am from Bangalore, and after going through this forum I do realize that I am a bit late. But better late than never and so here I am.

Guys I would like to know if there is anyone from Bangalore out here in this forum who is planning to join any coaching classes or has joined yet?

Also for the notes from Schweser, even I would like to share costs for them. So if anyone could hep me out with that and any other notes available that would be really great.

Anil,
Thank you for your inquiry. The FRM products will be available in Mid May, we do not have an exact date yet as they are updating the materials to reflect any changes. International shipping takes 4-7 business days.

Thank you,

Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP - 06-05-2008, 09:58 AM

I was going through Jorion handbook for FRM - 4th edition and I didnt find compatible enough for preparation for Nov 2008.

Handbook was last published in March 2007 and meant basically for Nov 2007 exam.
Thereafter GARP didnt issue/suggested new edition i.e. the same edition will continue.

It looks like GARP publishes handbook every 2-3 years.

But looking at risk areas which are never constant & looking at FRM curriculum which is updated thoroughly every year, it dint fit in.

There are major changes in Quant section and few other sections.
Certain readings are removed all together and certain new are added.

Like EVM theory from Quant is removed & D Gujarati book is introduced.
Chapters of Micheal Ong is introduced in Credit Risk portion.

So we should not end up readings extraneous material.

Best thing is to go through 2008 AIMS first & then go thorugh readings suggested in study guide like Hull,Tuckmam,Gujarati, etc.

So please dont make Jorion's handbook as your base of study. It may not be that fruitful.

Cheers !

I entirely agree with you Anil, regarding your views on the handbook. Following is the extract from the 2008 FRM study guide which is self explanatory:

The Financial Risk Manager Handbook, 4th edition, by Philippe Jorion
(New York: Wiley & Sons, 2007), covers most of the FRM examination topics at the
appropriate level. However, please note that the FRM Handbook was designed to
help candidates review the material and is not a textbook. Alone, the FRM
Handbook is not sufficient to prepare a candidate to pass the examination.

Regards
