Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP -

Hi Shyam,
well Essential Econometrics - Guajarati is not included in GARP core readings. However I dont think it will ever be included in core readings. As in previous case Schaums outline was never part of the core readings and aspirants were expected to buy the same.
Disclaimer: This is my guess.
As u say i am also thinking of buying the essential econometrics.
I have one doubt. On various online stores the book is available with data CD. any Idea what is it? also what is the price of solutions manual.

The only other Alternatives to have the full sets is to buy the Core Readings, when they arrive in the market.
or Order directly online from Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more
I just dont understand, why GARP recommends expensive books and those that are not easily available worldwide.
P.S: Its wiser to invest another 3-4k on the latest books and clear the exam, than too save those bucks and fail in the exam.
So lets make some wise investments and optimum utilisation of resources.
I am very sure, we would recover our investments pretty quickly after clearing the exam.
cheers,
Shyam

Girish,
Even I am not pretty sure, if GARP will be including Essential Econometrics as a part of their Core Readings. My guess is they will include it in the coming months, as it is not easy to find the book and is also expensive. (Its also mentioned as COMING SOON in Core Readings list)
Data CD primarily consists of Secondary Market Data & Tables that is used as example all through the texts. The same type of CD is also available with the Basic Econometrics version
The different ways one couls buy this book are
1] Amazon.com
Heres the link for the same
Amazon.com: Essential Econometrics: Books
2] GARP Digital Library
GARP Digital Library-FRM,Hedge Funds,Risk,Risk Management,Management Risk,Basel,Online,Chapters
Currently this book is not available in the list, but they will surely add this book, and one can order individual chapters of the book Online.
3] BOOKZONE, Mumbai
The Bookzone store in Mumbai will import this book, if an order is placed through them. Most Probably they will definitely make this book available at their stores. will visit them next week.
I am also looking out for HULL - 6th Edition Solution Manual, Its currently available at Amazon.com, but if anyone has this book, do let me know (I am willing to share the Cost)
Cheers,
Shyam

Dear all yesterday we had FRM pg meet at Chennai:
The discussion included lots of topics(unrelated).
The points that came out were:
1. Get stock of the study material we have and share them among within ourselves.
2. The Schweser vs. core readings.
3. Though all of us thought that core readings wud be better from the knowledge perspective the importance of schweser cannot be ruled out for clearing exam.
4. Andy added that FRM is not that tough exam as it is made out to be one.(really a comforting statement)
5. Chennai traffic
6. IPL (namely brandon maccullum and hussey innings.
7. PLanning to meet next week again.
neways we have to wait till may 3rd week for schweser so lets try and cover hull and gujrati(if we get hold of one) to the extent possible.

Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP -

Hi All,
 Good to hear from you all, In PG we have a custom that whenever one has a PG Meet, they need to post pics - Guys please do that in next meet .
Some points that I would like to add
3. Core Reading is like a Textbook - Its damn vast and wide whereas the Topics are quite narrowed down as per the FRM Readings in Schweser. For a start, it would be better If one prepares from Schweser and once He has done with that, he can move on to Core Readings for adequate cover.
4. Its definitely comfortig words, All those people who gave FRM exam last year, think Otherwise. Its definitely a TOUGH EXAM.
I have joined a FRM Training Class in Mumbai, and already 3-4 people who had joined there, dropped the idea of giving FRM exam this year.
One definitely needs to put in a lot of preparation, and since the passing criteria is Percentile based, No one knows till the last moment whether they will clear the exam or not, until the result has been declared.
cheers,
Shyam
