Query..... - 01-04-2008, 02:46 PM

Hi Friends,
I am going to do my MBA(Insurance) in the year 2008-2010 from National Insurance Academy School of Management (NIASoM). I have certain queries. I would like the seniors and other puys to help me out please..

1) Alongwith with my MBA(Insurance), can i do any other course which would add to my profile and strengthen it, so that i get good placement and better job profile and which also adds to my knowledge at my workplace after 2 years of my MBA. Please suggest some courses to me if any for that. Apart from this, I don't like Maths much. So, please also consider this while suggesting me some options.

2) I went through all the posts of this threads. But still I am not very clear that what FRM and PRM are all about. What are these courses. Please also tell me will these courses help me in and after my MBA(Insurance)...?

I await your suggestions and opinions...
Thanking you,

Shalin Jain

Hi Girish,

Yep, its true

I do have last years Core Reading 2007 with me, and many chapters are missing in them.

This is because, GARP releases the Core Readings phase by phase, so in the 1st phase many chapters will be missing. By around Aug-sept Garp will release all chapters in Core Readings.

Similarly, only the 5 Study notes are available of Schweser FRM, rest of the materials are not available with Laxmi Xerox. I havent checked if any pages or chapters are missing in the same.

cheers,

Shyam

Re: Query..... - 02-04-2008, 02:16 AM

Hi,

Frankly speaking, I am not a Qualified person to answer this query.

However, In my personal opinion, I feel that Clearing Actuarial exams from Actuarial Society of India, will give you more career Progression than the FRM/PRM.

Since you will be pursuing a sector specific course, you have very less options.

There is no proper overlaps of subjects from either FRM/PRM into the Insurance sector, except for Quant Risk. But Quant Risk is basically commprised of Probability, Statistics and Econometrics Models which you will anyways cover if you give the Actuarial Exams :nervous:.

On the International Arena, I have found many people pursuing the Insurance course from CII, UK.

But mind you, the Actuarial exam offered by the Actuarial Society of India is not just another exam in India. Its pretty difficult to crack. In fact, its so tough to clear all the exams in India, that many Indian Actuarial aspirants pursue the same course from Actuarial Society in UK, where the difficulty level is less as compared to the one in India.

ULIPS are now the most popular form of Insurance Product. ULIPS are both Equity and Debt Linked. Insurance Fund managers have a portfolio of companies / products - on which they research and make investments decissions.

In that regard, its better you pursue the CFA program instead of FRM/PRM.

Again, this is strictly my personal OPINION, and u have every right to have a second thoughts on the same.
As in they say "Investment decisions are subject to Market Risks, Please read the offer document carefully before investing"

cheers,

Shyam
