Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP - 29-03-2007, 02:48 PM

I did talk to the material wala guy and he said that the material will be available by April 15, 2007.

I hate delays, just want to get studying for the exam.

Another thing, this year onwards, the GARP fellows are using the 4th Version of the Risk Manager Handbook as their official material and not the 3rd Edition. So dont make the mistake of reading from the older Schweser material (since it is prepared from the 3rd version of handbook) or older handbook by GARP since that is already outdated.

Hope that is useful to all you guys.

hi guys,
i guess here a lot of janta is more experienced and in a better situation to
advice or rather suggest me as to when in the rite time for me to give FRM exam.
actually i will be giving my CFA level1 this dec 07, and probably level2 in june08, so i was little confused that wat would be the rite time for me to go for frm as to i have to clear the exams at once because stakes are high.
as for me(i m a student) i will be completing my graduation this june and will start with my masters in statistics,i do have this advantage of quants background but i really dont know the bulk of frm exam as to when it would be more likely to clear it before level1(given that i have to clear level1) or after level2 in which case u will have some 4 months in hand.
hope the people who have an idea could guide me,so as to take my decision.??:

My friend, whats the hurry?
You are just completing your graduation and appearing for L1 right? It means that you are near 21-22 in age. Even if you flunk a couple of times (which I pray you don't), you will still complete CFA by 27ish, which is very ideal for a person to do so!
The best would be to complete 2 levels of CFA straight and then go for FRM as it will be beneficial for FRM and for L-3 also since some of FRM stuff rolls over into L-3 of CFA.

Life has finer pleasures and moments also apart from studying. Take things easy and cool down. You dont want to be out of steam when it really matters to wok hard (typically in your 30s) to move up the ladder. Preserve that fire in you for the long run. Take things slow and you will find the journey more sweet than the destination.

Just my personal advice. Others may differ! All the best for your studies.

Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP - 18-04-2007, 02:50 PM

Hey TumTum...nice thread, lotsa useful info, although i've not read thru all of it.

I want to know your opinion on this: Will FRM be a good asset for a guy to pursue a career in derivatives or forex trading for a wall street firm? Will it be useful for stepping into the hedge fund field? I guess trading derivatives and forex would involve a lot of risk modelling, so knowledge of risk management will help there. Same goes for hedge fund management, i think. These are my own assumptions...wanna know from you if im correct. Also, for the above three fields (derivatives trading, forex trading, and hedge funds), how useful will the CFA be in comparison to FRM? As in, which of the two qualifications should a guy who wants to pursue one of the above three fields prfer?

Thanks in advance!

Approvals and celebrations will rarely surround your inner decisions and choices to follow Personal Truth. You will be challenged and taunted: “Who do you think you are, anyways?” And, indeed, through your choices and decisions, that is precisely the question you are answering–to yourself.
