Arey bhai, Im sunk neckdeep into loads of work and dont know whether I will be able to finish off schweser notes itself or not and what I see here is that it is being discussed that Schweser is not enough!

Kyon bachche ki jaan le raho bhai !! Tension mat dilvao yaaron !

Hey there....there are no doubts people have cracked FRM by studying Schweser notes...
If there is a time crunch, schweser and FRM handbook perhaps can do the needful...only thing is schweser sometimes leaves u in the air...for which core readings provides a sigh of relief. Core reading is always worth a look for those wishing to get a better idea.

Has anyone touched Portfolio Management(Second last main topic in Schweser and Book 5 core reading). Anyone looking forward pls beware. Picking up Schweser is a waste of time for that. Its simply indecipherable.
I brushed past the Core Reading but found it to be too verbose and descriptive. Would take a month to go through it. Dont see much RoI in going through the Core Reading full.
Any clues how to go doing about this topic for the people who have?

I am thinking about registering for FRM this year, and this excellent forum has only increased my resolve. Haven't registered yet but would do so before 31 Aug.

Tumtum your posts has really been great and I am waiting for further updates from you. How far have you reached.

I got my hand on Handbook(4th edition) a month back and have gone through first few chapters. Once I have gone through the Credit Risk and operational risk, I would get to know where I stand vis a vis this exam.

I personally did nto find it that bad my friend. I think your background to a great extent defines how much you are comfortable with a topic or not. But yes, if you can go for a combo of Schweser + Core readings, the better it will be for you ! All the best reading !

Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP - 26-07-2007, 02:05 PM

Hi guys ! Hope all is fine with you ppl.

I had a slack day at work y'day....kaafi aaram wala din thaa and I made the most of itby voraciously reading the Schweser's material!
Now I am on the verge of completing the VaR part and with it my portion on Market Risk Measurement and Management (MRMM) will be complete.

Is tarah tukdon pe pal ke zinda hai meri prep for the exam ! I am sure you people must be much better off!! On second thoughts, VaR is a section that you guys must go through carefully as it carries a lot of weight in the exam too. Be sure to read up a lot of matter when it comes to Methods of VaR and their advantages/disadvantages and that sort of stuff. These guys may ask a lot of conceptual questions on these and if you are not thorough, then you could take a beating. Rest of it is pretty straightforward but can't be taken lightly. I will come out with a list of chapters that I liked and those that I did not like (from Schweser's) once I complete my last chapter.

Till then, please keep studying and if you have any clarifications, please PM me for sure ! Take care and regards to all !

Hedge Fund Section
Has anyone gone through it? I cant find Schweser material understandable enough. Its regular Schweser standard half baked explanations with critical lines missing in between texts ....Anyway the problem is that I cant find Core Reading chapters for it too from the notes I got from Lakshmi Xerox. Am I missing something here? Also the notes do not include the chapter on Style drifts by Moix. Is it the same with all your copies too?

A bit of advice. Schweser has given Risk Management and Investment Management (Core Reading Book 5 material) as part of Book 2 (which I think is just because of the sake of fitting everything in 3 damn equally sized looking books ??. Just screw Schweser sequence and stick to the one as given in Core Reading and keep tha section as the last.
