Re: Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP - 30-09-2009, 02:08 PM

I have registered for Level 1 FRM exam 2009. I have the core readings material. I went through the schweser material and at first glance, it just seemed to be an abridged version of the core readings. And the FRM handbook is to be used as a reference guide.

So is it enough if I go through the core readings alone thoroughly?

Thanks
Ashish Abraham J

Readings for the FRM are now available. PM me for the details.
Authors: René M. Stulz, Richard Apostolik.

A query here too: How many years of work-ex. are required to qualify for appearing for these papers?
Will work-ex. in finance any field do, or specifically required in Financial Risk Management?

Work experience is NOT required to qualify for the exam, even freshers can take the exam. BUT 2 years of relevant work experience is required to get the FRM certification. (provided you pass the exam)

For more information check this.

Hi,

Can somebody answer following questions ?

1) What is the cutoff ? I know it's on percentile basis but still any vague estimate about the number of questions we need to correct out of 70 questions in each paper ?

2) Is there any sectional cut off i.e. different cutoff for each topic mentioned in study guide ?

3) Do they mention topic wise marks in final certificate ?

Thanks,
Sandeep

I am answering your questions on the basis of information i got from GARP & others who cleared in previous years..

1. No cutoff is mentioned. Its determined on the basis of performance of all candiadates. Generally, its determined as 70-75 % score of the average score of Top 5% candidates.
For example: If top 5 % candidates on average scored 115 marks on 140, then cutoff wud be in range of 80-85 depending on GARP. Generally, a score of 85 can be a passing mark.

2. There are no sectional cutoffs

3. No

All the Best to u & me !!!

Calculators - 28-10-2009, 03:11 PM

Hey,
Any idea on how strict the FRM conductors are on calculators??

Is it necessary that we should carry only the calculators mentioned in the GARP website?? I own a CASIO Scientific Calculator. Can any one throw light on this please.

I think the previous batch people will have some idea on this. Please share.
