ravi, if u are looking at core electronics industry you need to be in VLSI, chip design and related work. co.s like philips, SAIC, Texas instrmts recruit in these areas. however they look more at premier instts like IIT's/IISC. i suggest looking at electronics industry association for more info. also you need to be strong in the specific area(i suggest doing your course well and come at top of class). you may not get gud trng instts near your college. the best way is to keep chkng Times of India Ascent and careers websites of these electronics co.s for exact requirements and build up accordingly.
also screening will be aptitude plus technical. brush up oral and written communication skills also.

If u want to do MBA abroad work for 3 yrs before applying else u are not eligible. go thru businessweek, FT sites for top schools and requirements. also thread in PG on MBA abroad.

nice move dude.. i tell u wat.. being in an NIT helps open opportunites... it may not be IIT but then NIT has quite a good brand name and will definately help u find lots of job offers provided u do well in their apti tests... another way into companies wouldbe if u could manage to get internships during summer or other times... also if u r in the good books of ur hod, then make him apply on ur behalf to instis like DRDO, ISRO, BARC n the likes requesting them to take u in for some project where u r interested.. if u still feel that u screwed up somewhere n u still r interested in getting into electronics or watever and interested in getting quality work ex, then a masters degree (MS/MTech) could help u... so basically u got a lot of opportunities... jus be aware.. i might also suggest freshersworld.com and may be naukri.com too where u might be able to hunt down opportunities in the avenues that u want...

Best Wishes
The God..

trainaing in India is as good if done in one of better orgs like CISCO, Philips, samsung etc. core area trng(technology) remains same thruout irrespective of wherever u go. only for advanced research ppl go abroad.

there are plenty of eletronics companies in India ... if u r really interested in elecotrnics , MS in US is also very good option , otherwise u can join any semiconductor companies like Freescale , Philips , Motorolla , Siemens ... etc gain some experience and then after few years take mba ...

not many iit's offer core electronics degerss ( kharagpur and guwahati does ) . so nit k has a high value and getting a job wudbe a breeze ...

cheers~N

expectations of core sector co.s
1. good acads thruaout..70% or more consistently
2. school pedigree
3. deptt strengths based on school focus
4. excellent tech knowledge..inc programming in C/C++, Unix/Linux
5. knowledge of some specific tool..Orcad or chip prog or similar...depends on company/position
6. Gud awareness of technologies and standards in market, competitive technologies, products etc
7. business awareness will be added advantage
a foreign language proficiency like of spanish or dutch will ensure a plum posting in one of European/scandinavian countries early. not a necessity although.

Re: Electonics and Communication Engg. Career query - 19-06-2008, 04:24 PM

Hello Sir

God is Great !

your direction and his grace finally bagged me great offers !!!!

Hardware Design Engineer Freescale Semiconductors Noida
Software Engineer Atrenta an EDA start-up Noida
Software Engineer Global Logic Noida

At the first place, I whole hearted want to thank you for the support and encouragement which helped me sail through.

Sir the doubt continues !!!1:sad:

Now Sir my next target is best B-school mostly abroad
The doubts are
1. The kind of work-exp.
Here in the threads of MBA abroad it was written that there are lot of applications from software guys with 2/3 yrs exp.
So I worked hard to get into electronics hardware industry.
Now I got all this but I am not sure if it's worth. I was even called by a start-up company offering me Business- Analyst post. I turned down the offer since they were paying comparatively less and that too in Bangalore:.

What shud I do?///:tellme:
where shud I step???:2gunfire:

2. I have a lot of time. What shud be done? I mean to make the application more convincing.// like some online courses or languages///
