3 years Technical Experience in IT: Will be wise to move to Buisness Analyst rol ?? - 31-07-2006, 01:47 PM

Hello Friends,

I would like to have Career advice from you people, I have been working in Software industry since last 3 years as a technical person(My domain is Insurance). I would like to know is there any way i can move ahead as a Buisness analyst in Ins. Domain, I am doing PGDBA (Finance) from SCDL, I can't leave my job at this point so never thought of doing a full time MBA at least now. Let me be vary forthright, I am not an engineer and do not possess a excellent Academic profile. I heard that most of the companies take BA from top most B-School, In that case how is the idea to move to that field. 5 years down the line i would like to be a delivery head (For that also Buisness knowledge is of the essence). I am planning for some certification in Insurance, But will it be a wise decision to switch over to Domain after spending 3 years in technical and with low profile Education background.

Thanks
Sabya

hi sabyamba, getting in a biz analyst post in a SW co. or in a consulting co. requires domain knowledge and not technical. after u finish scdl mba u can work for few more years and during that go for an actuary course to get depth domain knowledge. cerificate courses may not add much value. also if u get a chance look at more client interaction and requirement gathering work in your co.
also biz analyst roles have different levels so you can look for a entry-mid level suitable to your position/exp. also many KPO's are in insurance hi-end processing, u can look in to them for domain based jobs.
