Hi Ankur,
Many institutes in India have started a Post Graduate diploma in Ratail Management. It is somewhat like MBA with ur specialisayion in Retail. Pantaloons have tied up with various institutes to offer this program. The institues r Welingkar, mumbai:K.J.Somaya,Mumbai; IILM, Gurgaon. You can get the details of these program at pantaloon.com and in these courses your job is assured ay Pantaloon. I have joined the same at IILM. Also institutes like BIMTECH, MICA, ICFAI Kolkata r offering some programs.
If u are interested in Retail.then its better if u join any of the companies right now and opt 4 tyese specific diplomas and they do combine basics of
mba,

Hi Varun,
Why don't u post ur documents on this thread only. Its better if all of us read it and then discussit. so pls post it here itself.
And pls. do tell us something about ur profile. How u entered this sector? About the Co. u r presently working,at which post? And do also post some of ur experiences which u think would help us.

Well Vinit, Rightly said we can't say how good these programs are. But I hope I will be able to tell u better about these program after some time. Anyways IILM has full tie up with Pantaloons. Even in a week we will work at Pantaloons for 2 days and we have 9 months full time training at Pantaloons.
Till know we have attended only the Orientation Program. In it there were representatives from Pantaloon: Mr Mayur,Northern jone Manager, pass out from IIM,A. Second was Sonal Mehta:Asst. Manager,Operations. Our regular classes will begin from tomorrow.
Vinit u seem amazing on this sector. So just post ur profile here. Are u interested in joining retail as ur career.

Hi kaumoshan,
I will sujjest u to read Autobiography of Sam Walton "Made in America".He3 is the founder of Wal Mart. It is a chain of retail outlets and this Co. ranks 2nd on the list of Fortune500 companies. U will learn everything through this b'coz Sam Walton developed this sector in America when tthe formated retail was unheard of.

Re: For those crazy about RETAIL - 07-08-2006, 12:34 PM

Well er... no me not part of retail. Most of my points are about FDI in retail and its relevant consequences and not specific to retail.

But yes in deciding which retail stock to pick whether the valuation given to PRIL by the markets ... to the best my memory serves has a P/E of 60 odd. Which means its very expensive stock.

So that's how I got to know something about retail. And who doesnt like CPI bashing where u get to know benefits about FDI in retail or any sector for that matter.

Cheers,
VA

I am little confused about chain of retail outlets. are they franchise or owned by the company. basically wanna understand franchisie part of business in retail.
