2.) The fees for the whole program would come close to 30K (fairly cheap)
3.) They are planning to come up with a 1-year course which can be done after completing a 2-year PGDBM, and after successful completion they will award an MBA degree (This thing is however yet in the pipeline..so let it be)
4.) It is approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC).

Thank so much Rohit. You have helped my dilemma. I wasn't sure where would i get time to do a part time MBA. SP Jain opened its branch in Dubai, but with family and job its kinda too hectic to manage. Now I was thinking of NMIM and just applied to the course. Hopefully I should be able to get just in time.
By the way, what are the merits from a Distance learning. Will it enhance my job prospects if I choose to shift my current job? Do people still scrown upon an online / distance MBA program?

Re: Symbi Vs IMT Gzbd -

Hello Rajat,
I've read the interesting information you have posted about imt and amity.
My query was also revolving round the same. I'm also looking for an e-Learning MBA Course for completing my 16 yrs education, getting a mba degree. And the options I finalized were IMT and Amity. I've already ruled out symbiosis, icfai, nmims, etc. IMT is no doubt good, but problem is that it has stopped offering degrees now (earlier it used to give degrees through vidya sagar university). And, Amity is now itself a university in UP, and is offering MBA degree in 2years through e-Learning.
So, IMT will give a diploma whereas u can get an executive MBA degree from Amity.
For me, I've 7 yrs of work ex. in software and am already a manager with top indian mnc. My education background is BCom/BCA/Three years course from Aptech.
I would be interested to know ur insights on this.
Best Regards

Hi DG,
I have been a little out of touch with the distance learning arena lately, and this is news to me that IMT has stopped giving degrees.
Now to come back to your profile. The profile looks and feels solid. There is a difference between e-learning and distance learning. The former is going to be conducted online, whereas the latter is sort of a self paced course, where you might need access to some distance learning center of the university.
The IMT e-learning course is 2 years vis-a-vis the distance learning being 3 years. You have an advantage in terms of time there. Secondly, coming to the diploma/degree war, i feel that the degrees have been over-rated. In the sense that even IIM's only offer diplomas and not degrees.
IMT has been expanding steadily. In that regard, it has a better global outlook than Amity. PLUS, we all know that AMITY has already been involved in a few shady acts with the AICTE.

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to withdraw approval for conduct of PGDM (full time) and PGDM (part time) courses to Amity Business School Noida, from the academic year 2005-06. Consequent upon withdrawal of AICTE approval, the Council decided to transfer and distribute the students already admitted in the Amity Business School, among other approved institutions in the nearby locality.
The decision has been taken after the Expert Committees of AICTE visited Amity Business School of Noida on several occasions during the last few years and show cause notices had been issued for violating norms and standards set by the Council. Expert Committees visited Amity Business School, Noida recently on July 27, 2005 and August 5, 2005 and found serious deficiencies and violation of Norms and Standards.

The REAL reson why you dont get to read about this in the bigger newspapers is the ad revenue they generate. So ... its my advice to everyone to be careful when dealing with Amity.
Cheers...

The information you are giving me is very old now. The recent status of Amity is that its itself a university now, and doesn't need any recognition, or affiliation. Check this:-
http://www.amity.edu/amityuniversity/univStatus.asp
The Amity University has been enacted by the UP State legislature under the "Amity University Uttar Pradesh Act, 2005" and notified through Government of Uttar Pradesh Gazette Notification No. 403/VII-V-1-1(Ka) 1/2005 dated March 24, 2005.
You are correct about IIM's but IMT is not IIM. And in distance learning/ elearning, still degree by a university is better than any diploma. And, I'm only interested for eLearning course because I travel frequently.
The best option I tell you is the new 1 year certificate courses for executives by IIMs through Hughes Directway, but that's part time.
I've recently done a lot of study in eLearning MBA in India. Only thing I wanted is the real face of things.
Best Regards

:-).. then you yourself have done enough research to know which is the right path. But, please do let us know how a degree is better? In what sense does it add to the education?

Hi guys !

Well, after a lot of discussions and brain storming, I have finally enrolled for distance learning programme from IMT Ghaziabad:satisfie:
The session is gonna start from mid of August. So who else has joined the distnace learning MBA ?? This is just a starting, I have a long way to go....
I would appreciate if those who are already doing their distance MBA, can share their experiences on this platform.

In Indian scenario, degree is always considered high when compared to diploma. Only a Recognized University, and institutes/organizations affiliated by the recognized universities can offer degree courses. Its same for diplomas too, but Private institutions dont need to get any affiliation before awarding a diploma.
Degree means that the course complies with that approved in the university.
So, when you talk about IIM's giving diploma's, its only their reputation that adds value. They give diplomas because they want their course to be dynamic and as per the industry standards. This is possible only without affiliation to any university.
Now about education, in distance learning/ eLearning it would matter least, and I see all options are equivalent, so why not a degree !! Still it depends on the course content and service quality given by the instituions, amity or imt.
Let me know if you get any further information on this

sandeep, MTech is a practical course. Lab oriented courses shd not be done from distance education--it may not help. try MS from BITS, pilani. they have correspondence/contact schedules. entry is screened.
