previously i used 2 think that coaching was not really necessary but after i joined coaching last year, i have realised the benefits which one can gain:

1) Experienced Faculty to guide you...

2) Interaction with other people preparing helps u gain a lot of knowledge..u can start studying in groups (with other people from the coaching institute u join)..

3) Spirit of competition with ur batchmates @ coaching centres is very beneficial...it helps u to excel...

4) Study Material...

5) Helps u maintain regularity for studies...

6) Mock CATS & their analysis help beyond all the above!

i completely agree with vits. with such high competition coaching is definitely required but if u r really adamant on not taking any classroom coaching then u can atleast join a test series and can thus analyse as to where u stand.

join up for sure...my reasons :
1) if u r a newbie... u get to know what all the hyped up thingy is the CAT. What all to prepare...how to prepare...
2) it gives ur prep a structure and a timeframe .
3) It gives u a glimpse at ur competitors..
4) Is very good for keeping the motivation levels up..
5) Owing to laziness/lack of time/inclination u might not study...but u'll surely go and attend a class for which u have paid 14000 bucks.. so u'll end up being regular...
6) The profs at these classes have amazing pickin value...especially if they are IIM alumni.. been there done that kinds... u will get amazin guidance from them,,,

yes

yes but it depends

my take on that that u should join coaching as u will defintely study when u will pay the money.regularity and grooming is the key.

hi,
it depends on the person. If you think u need regularity in your study and u are not firm in your basics, then coaching will be quite helpful. But if u have already undergone coaching and have already appeared for CAt, then it won't be of so much value addition.

In either of the case, MOCK tests are very vital to CAT preparation and an individual gains a lot while taking them.

abhishek

On the contrary, i think iucan do woithout coaching as these days coaching material are so good that u can manage on your own & can get ur doubts cleared from your friends or facuty by joining some institute for Mock cat series. Mock definitly helps.Though its on much smaller scale when compared to CAT but it prepares u for the D-day & tells you how you are faring in these 20 k students!!

Some people have never been to any coaching classes but for CAT you might need one for initial start up. Though you might be a scholar & self-disciplined, but you need atleast some initial coaching to come into the flow of mocks CAT.

Also you can analyse yourself with the current batch of students properly in a classroom.. that will make your prep more systematic as they take chapter by chapter classes. You'll miss all this at home. If someone has gone thru all this atleast once in a life for CAT, then there is no point to attend the classes again. Junta can easily arrange notes ad practice at home. Working ppl with no coaching experience can take up any weekend classes & work hard for 2-3 months.. life will be cool then. .
