Basically corp finance is more about working capital management/inventory management/long-term and short-term financial planning. There is a lot of accounting built-in into a corp finance role and hence being either a CA/ICWA helps in the long run. If you look at Corp Finance jobs in any website or newspaper, they generally ask for CA/ICWA but it is also seen that MBA(Finance) also bodes well for such roles.

After IB, Corp Finance and Financial/Risk Consulting is the best paying field but mind you folks- the pay differential is very very wide between IB and CF/Consulting jobs in absolute terms.

Hope this helps.

Apart from the operational tasks listed by Tumtum, many organisations also combine strategic functions (such as Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestitures etc) into this role. In such profiles, the learning, the commitment, the market value, the glamour (at least on the face of it) etc all take a fillip.

Industry players pay far less for these roles than traditional I-banks.
