ANYONE hear about CFP?? - 24-03-2006, 11:18 PM

Yes friends I have not made a typo above...
What i am referring to is the Chartered Financial Planner which is a certificate course brought to India by a group of Financial Instituions (Banks, Insurance Companies, Mutual Fund Companies, AMCs, etc)

It is not as expensive as the CFA and not as difficult as the CA ( i am not saying the CFA is easy but CA is more difficult) It has to do with personal Finance mangement similar concept to Wealth Management but at an individual level..

It has 6 moodules and exams are held 4 times a year with max of 3 modules per attempt plus they give a maximum of 7 years to complete all moduules..
ALso we need to do a couple of years of relevant work experince in the field to get the Charter but I think that is ok and completely acceptable

Now my questions
1) Has anyone here done this course?
2) Do you recommend it?
3) Does anyone work in these areas and interact with a CFP at work?
4) Are they given preferentail treatement?
5) how will it help a Finance MBA?
6) What is its scope and value in other countries?

It would be nice if anyone could throw light on this

after doing this course you will get a job with paypacket of around 2.5 to 3 lacs per annum. in you are interested in stock market related areas like Equity research , dervatives etc then you may consider Securities Market Program offerred by indian institute of capital markets(foprmerly UTI institute of capital markets). refer to www.utiicm.com

visit the thread CIIA Diploma from ICFAI. the guy who started this thread is a stock broker with a leading stock broking firm.i think that will help you.

THanks Rishabh,
also can you temme if it would be possible to complete it alongside a Finance MBA? In terms of the difficulty level and the difference in syllabus between a finance MBA and the CFP papers...
Just a doubt see if you can comment on it
Ill check the thread you mentioned and thanks a TON

ANYONE hear about CFP?? - 28-03-2006, 05:34 PM

Hi ! to all

I am doing CFP and also my 2nd yr BBA frm Ludhiana. I have already cleared my 4 module exams.

As far as CFP is concerned it is totally different frm courses such as CA/CFA as these relate to different aspects of finance. CFA is corporate finance while CFP is Personal Finance and individual financial planning.

This is a very popular course gobally espacially in USA and it is the worlds largest designation for financial planning professionals. As far as india is concerned , it is a new course and it will take some time to make it popular in india but financial planning sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in india and CFP's are the only certified financial planners available and hope that with passage of time it would get popular in india too.

As far as course is concerned there are 6 modules on 6 six different aspects of financial planning and it is of moderate difficulty and can be pursued with other qualification but its course structure cant be matched with MBA.
