Hi pawan,

It depends on your desgination and JD as wel,l but since wealth planning is very much related to CFA course curriculum i think your wrk expereince should be counted. You can also mail CFA your detailed JD designation company etc and they wud respond on that.

Guys i have some queries.
I'm pursuing a Dual Degree in chem engg from IIT Delhi.
1.Am i eligible for CFA Level 1 December exam or not?
2.And if i am will i be able to get through considering that i have no knowledge of finance?
3.I have been doing some research on FRM as well.Do u think it would be a good addition to my profile alongwith a CFA Level 1?
A swift reply would be appreciated
Thanks

1.If you are in your 4th yr, I think you are.
2. You can clear the exams if you study well. Prior Knowledge of Finance is not neccessary.
3. I think you should concentrate on just one based on your interest...dont get carried away in the rate race.

Re: Need some Opinions on CFA. - 14-07-2009, 02:02 PM

Hi puys,

I am working in the IT sector currently and planning to switch to the finance stream. I am going to take the L1 exam in this dec('09). I have gone through the study material(i mean an overlook and found it really challenging) and feel that its really important to stay motivated till the end or else the chances to clear the exam will be minimal. For this, either I can join some institute or some study group. This way, atleast it would be possible to keep a track of the progress. But there are a few doubts.

1) The coaching institute will take just 15 to 18 sessions to finish off the course. I think its really not possible to take up the entire course in such less time. might be that they are just providing an overview, so this puts me into the dilemma that i should go for it or not..

2) Secondly, i can join a group. I am in Mumbai and if there are any other people who are looking for a peer group then lets plan and start preparing.

please suggest something.

I am planning to do level 1 in jun 2010....
Can anyone let me know what should be the appropriate plan of action after level 1 i.e. whether to complete level 2 and go for a job change then or go for a job in BFSI and prepare for level 2..........
Also i am keen to know what job opportunities do we have after each of the levels (1,2,3) and what packages should be expected after clearing each level.

Re: Need some Opinions on CFA. - 15-07-2009, 05:10 PM

Hi All,
I need some serious help regarding CFA.
> I have been working with TCS for almost 2 years now and frankly I did not like the experience.
> I want to switch to Finance. Will getting a CFA (Level-1) help me move into any finance job after 2 yrs in IT? (I can take the other 2 levels after I get into a finance company).
> I realized late but nevertheless I did, that IT is not for me and I have inclination towards Finance.
> I do not have any prior experience in Finance. Will clearing CFA Level-1 help me move out of IT and into a core Finance Job?

Please Help. A prompt relply would be appreciable

@ INimisha...

Coaching classes can be of help but the most important work you have to do.... that it is to study... you can join some of the reputed classes... but at the end .... you need to spend at least 300+ hours studying the material...... given you are from non finance background you might require even more....

I was in the same boat as you are in right now... I studied on my own... waiting for the result.. hopefully would clear...

Hope that helps..
