AIMR CFA has 3 exams, one for each level. level 1 exam is offered in june and december, while level 2 and 3 exams are offered only in june. 3 levels = 3 exams.
i dont know how good or bad the icfai-cfa is, but the aimr-cfa is pretty tough, so although the syllabus of the two might be almost similar, it might be tough for you to do both things at the same time. a good idea would be to finish your icfai-cfa, you`ll get decent jobs on the basis of it, and then while you`re working, you can "upgrade" to AIMR cfa. since you`ll have cleared the icfai-cfa, the aimr cfa will be pretty easy for you later in life. i`m saying all this assuming that you`re more than half way thru your icfai-cfa. in case you`ve just started, you could just ditch the icfai thing and switch to AIMR...i`ll leave it up to you to figure out the financial implications of this decision though
The AIMR cfa is definitely more reputable than the icfai-cfa, but you should take the drastic step of doing the aimr-cfa from scratch (or switching to it) only if you`re looking at overseas job prospects. i think indian companies do accept icfai-cfa and offer good jobs. the icfa-cfa's value is ZERO outside india...in fact, in the US it is not even legal to use the "cfa charter" if you`ve done it from icfai in india.
bottomline: switch to AIMR or go for AIMR only if you`re looking at overseas job scene. in india, it`s okay to have ICFAI CFA.
