I got CFA Level 1 material cheap from my company. Not appearing in the exam though. Just have that insatiable appetite for learning.

In conjunction to my pursuit to work on the employability of the CFA in India (standalone and CFA with functional experience) I have invited Rohit Rebello to post on this forum.. Rohit is a CFA and works with Citigroup in Mumbai. He is also the secretary for Indian Association of Investment Professionals(IA) -- which is the only CFA Institute's Member Society in India. (http://www.cfainstitute.org/programs...?society=INDIA)

Let's hope he posts.

And, it would take a while for my contacts amongst the headhunters to say something .... but I hope to post an insight some time next week.

:satisfie: All views my own...expressed with reference to the context of the impending pre MBA entrance interview.

AIMR CFA has 3 exams, one for each level. level 1 exam is offered in june and december, while level 2 and 3 exams are offered only in june. 3 levels = 3 exams.

i dont know how good or bad the icfai-cfa is, but the aimr-cfa is pretty tough, so although the syllabus of the two might be almost similar, it might be tough for you to do both things at the same time. a good idea would be to finish your icfai-cfa, you`ll get decent jobs on the basis of it, and then while you`re working, you can "upgrade" to AIMR cfa. since you`ll have cleared the icfai-cfa, the aimr cfa will be pretty easy for you later in life. i`m saying all this assuming that you`re more than half way thru your icfai-cfa. in case you`ve just started, you could just ditch the icfai thing and switch to AIMR...i`ll leave it up to you to figure out the financial implications of this decision though

The AIMR cfa is definitely more reputable than the icfai-cfa, but you should take the drastic step of doing the aimr-cfa from scratch (or switching to it) only if you`re looking at overseas job prospects. i think indian companies do accept icfai-cfa and offer good jobs. the icfa-cfa's value is ZERO outside india...in fact, in the US it is not even legal to use the "cfa charter" if you`ve done it from icfai in india.

bottomline: switch to AIMR or go for AIMR only if you`re looking at overseas job scene. in india, it`s okay to have ICFAI CFA.

Approvals and celebrations will rarely surround your inner decisions and choices to follow Personal Truth. You will be challenged and taunted: “Who do you think you are, anyways?” And, indeed, through your choices and decisions, that is precisely the question you are answering–to yourself.

Hi All,

I found a new yahoo groups for chennai aspirants of CFA level 1 for DEC -06 . Those in chennai can join there to benefit .

The group name is L1_Dec06_chennai

As of now there is only one member ie the moderator . I mailed him and found out that he has found about 4 of them in chennai who will give CFA level 1 in dec 2006.

It could be useful for other chennai aspirants to network with that group .

Regards,

John
