In case you are associated with this company....just tell the concerned folks, that, *usually*, the profile page consists of the company's profile, rather than the profile of the recruits they intend to hire Found that pretty amusing !!

Hi Guys,

I too am in the same boat guys.. working in infy but willing to switch to a financial job that would give me good exposure to the core finance concepts and good idea about the market too!!! Now I have a couple of questions
1) Is there something that I can do to make up for my absence of experience in this field such taking some tests? I was told that may be NSE and BSE conduct such tests though not sure.
2) Can some one throw light on what does 'equity research' deal in ... is it like being updated in value of equities and then advise companies for their investments? What all companies are involved in this field..
3) what sort of jobs are usually available for a fresher guy in the market...

I have just started thinking about all these stuff so have very little idea about this market... so please bear with me if the answers are too subjective and might I add debatable...personal experiences are all welcome....

FINANCE:

NSE does offer tests in areas such as derivatives and modules. I am planning to take them up in case I dont make a B school this year. Check out the NSE site. Also, I think there is a dedicated thread here for that topic. Look it up.

As for an equities firm. Try IREBNA: But you need to convince them that you would like to work in this field. DO NOT look for a huge compensation package. But good company though.

Another option ofcourse is doing a 1 year finance course in IFMR- Chennai. The college does good work and I know some guys who did the course before heading abroad to do further studies in finance.

MARKETING:

I am a mechanical engineer and I believe the best option one has in automobile firms is working in vendor or the purchase departments. Many companies do recruit freshers for marketing jobs. Although, convincing them that you want to dedicate your life to the company and have no plans of doing an MBA is tough

Otherwise you could consider working in a KPO. Lots of em coming up nowadays.

I think the best thing to do is telling your boss that you would like to pursue a career in the marketing side. Or maybe try hinting that you would like to take on projects that involve the marketing aspect as well.

Please talk to other people as well. I am only suggesting this because it worked wonders for some people I know. It has to be said that they had very understanding bosses

Thats the link to the courses offered by NSE. The study materials for the courses are also there in PDF. Try going through the Capital markets ( Basic), derivatives and commodities. U should be able to get a good hang of what exactly goes on in the stock exchanges. If u feel the need u could go for the certification. its pretty cheap

what sort of jobs are usually available for a fresher guy in the market...?

If u happen to write well and have good word and excel skills other than having some basic finance knowledge the work profile for a fresher is basically secondary research to get more data about the companies or sector and making charts, tables etc. Initially though a bit boring it helps a lot when ur actually making those analyst reports.
