re: [PaGaLGuY Debate] The dark side of our B-school campus cultures, traditions and more -

What I always thought of PG was it being a community where like minded people come together and discuss about things serious and otherwise.
What I could never imagine anyone out there doing was exactly this.
If the sole purpose of the PG marketing team is to generate hits by mudslinging, i strongly suggest a boycott. It is shameful, what has happened.
And dont get me wrong - i am not commenting on the contents of the video. I dont think that any bit of discussion on that front can lead to any fruition. Its a matter of personal choice.
Lastly, if PG wants to resort to moral policing, please partner with Aaj Tak.
whats worse...
not being judged fairly, or not being judged at all
i wonder...

Shocking indeed! Not the video, but wat PG did. Its accpeted that all leading Indian institutes be it IITs or IIMs have something along similar lines going on. I am not defending this but its not that big a deal that Pg reports it on its home page and that too with the video! PG could have been more tactful in approaching this issue.
Had PG really wanted to really sensitize us to the coninuing degradation of our premier educational institutes, it could have come out with a much better piece, investigating the situation in depth and coming up with some meaningful suggestions.
Being from an engineering institute myself, I can say that such language is common parlance in the hostels and that nobody really means any harm by using these expletives. Sure in an ideal world we wouldn't want such an environment, but hey that's ideal isn't it?

I beleive it is all the more the shocking since one expects the best in the country to get into this schools. If these are the future buisness leaders of our country then our country is in serious trouble. However I would also like to understand that they are exceptions and probably one needs to see this in that light.
I hope the stake holders of the IIMS , the students themselves , see the response from general folk not as a vendeta against them but as the responsibility that they should live up to.
The content is absolutely relevant as it tell all the future managers that apart from the intellectual vitality that one develops, horns in these schools they need to also focus on moral leadership.
And please stop quoting western examples they are not the benchamark that one should live up to.
Pagalguy have done a commmedable job in bringing up this case to light.
IIMs are governement instittions so every Indian Citizen has the right to mind this as his/her buisness. Hence, lets stop sulking against PG and get things in order

 AM SHOCKED
not because of whats shown on the video but because of two other reasons:
firstly how did such a video made it out of IIM, despite the high level of seceracy maintained by all good Bschools
secondly PG found this video important enoughh to make it public, guys we at PG do not need such low market stuff to gain hits....
we are good without it as well

@All -> Knowing Apurv, I'm not surprised that he felt strongly for the issue and hence decided to open the thread. I think where he went wrong was with some of his choice of words. I think we can go slow on this article bashing as enough has been said in last 13 hours highlighting displeasure on the same, and hope to hear from Apurv and Team.

The topic of the thread is highly controversial and hence, whether you like the video or you hate it, you are free to comment. But at the same time, personal attacks and insensitive remarks should be avoided.
Had to delete few of the posts as it was getting way too personal. Feel free to sort such issues via PM.

I am arguably surprised at the levels of backlash - but I am also not too surprised to see it because most of it is coming from business school students. Nope, this is not for traffic, nor sensational reporting.
The troubling thing for me is this -
a) Such behavior is completely acceptable and even supported
b) Most of you don't seem to have read or acknowledged that we have had similar thoughts at our own work place before we decided to bring this up
No, this is not moral policing - but an attempt to show to a lot of people the level of crassness that has crept into people's behavior and how they all seem to think it is OK. It is easy to take everything out of context, but I am a bit surprised to see all of you do it as well. The challenge at some point for us is to inform and help make change happen - surely not the most easiest of things to happen.
But all yee folks, don't twist the message.
a) No one is saying women shouldn't swear
b) No one is saying everyone should stop
But hey gentle people, some class please. Some better ways of expressing yourselves. Some more better ways of having fun and bonding. Just because things have been one way, they don't have to forever be.

Someone mentioned Sangharsh( IIMA v IIMB) as an exmaple to support this activity. I need to correct that. The comments in Sangharsh are witty and hurting, but we dont stoop down to such levels. The comments can actually be enjoyed by elderly people around too.
So dont qoute Sangharsh as an example to support this activity.
The B sports secy infact was really happy with the way things went at Sangharsh( including sledging) and I remember his comments about how things went at C with them.
Regards,
ismbaneeded.
With a pile of 300 résumés on his desk and a need to pick someone quickly, my boss told me to make calls on the bottom 50 and toss the rest.
"Throw away 250 résumés?" I asked, shocked.
"What if the best candidates are in there?"
"You have a point," he said.
" But then again, I don't need people with bad luck here ."
