re: [PaGaLGuY Debate] The dark side of our B-school campus cultures, traditions and more -
25-07-2008, 12:43 PM
Just watched this video and I feel an issue has been made out of nothing.
Am a bit disappointed with PG forum to start this thread and even though I haven't read all posts on this thread, just looking at the no. of posts I am sure that all sides of this issue must have been well-debated.
I don't feel anything wrong with what was shown in video. Its just some girls enjoying a sporting event. I also don't understand the angle of tax-payers money being brought out here. These words smack of political opportunism.
I guess people are more shocked to see females uttering these words than anything else and I don't blame them entirely. India, being a male chauvinistic society is still not used to see girls expressing themselves with abandon. Maybe we believe that swearing is not something to be done by "good" people and definitely not girls.
Let me talk about my experience during MBAT (sports tournament of top european b-schools) this year. This event features students from all top european b-schools participating in several sports events over a 3 day course. The evenings are reserved for parties and this is where you see the light side of people. Girls from a top school (say X) were seen licking the necks of guys from other schools if they agreed to get a tatoo of X on them. No one raised an eyebrow on this and it was all taken in good taste.
My take on this - please dont make a moral/political issue out of something frivolous like this.

A request for all. Please take some time out and read the complete thread before posting here. There have been many posts here which have conveniently used the "I-have-not-read-the-thread-so-dont-blame-me-for-what-I-write" philosophy
There have been a lot of points been raised and discussed in the thread. And there is a distinct possibility that you are actually missing the whole point of the debate and commenting on the contents of the video only. A lot of water has flown below the bridge since the first post on the thread and I would recommend everyone to take heed of that before posting here.
If nothing else it only makes your post irrelevant in the current context.

see i totally respect your views on that.. but thats a different debate altogether.. as i pointed out to pendy as well, yesterday.. the whole issue in context of a b-school is not an issue.. if you look at the entire youth, it can be an issue worth discussing..
is PG.com an authority on youth culture?? is PG.com a moral police for Indian youth? I'd like the founder himself to answer this one..!!

Is it? Then this thread is not for you. Please delete your post and don't come back. You are morally corrupt and should be ashamed that you didn't know it till now.

Well-debated? Yes we discussed sati, prostitution, feminism, anti-feminism, and some moral science topics etc. If you want to contribute to the debate why don't you catch up on some of the literature we read in and around Fort area.

You must be morally blind if you can't see anything wrong with it. Please use the rose tinted glass which will help you focus on the grave problem of widespread swearing among B-school ladies and the inflationary pressure it inflicts on the economy. If you promise to be morally unblind at least when you roam on this thread we'll send you the glass for free.

You are a little too direct. Please tone down.

C'mon we are Indians and we'd not let our ladies behave in such crassy manner. So, whenever they swear next, we'll again shoot the video and put it here and start a new thread.

We don't give a damn what your take is on this issue. We find this video disturbing and we'd like to continue the debate as long the others are subdued and if you are not a softhead that's your problem.

I guess there are no Mods around to delete the last post (#276)? Or, was it sarcasm that stumped one and ALL?

I think it was a futile attempt at sarcasm.

If this was for me, then let me explain.
(1) The post didn't make any sense -> it was purely a personal attack. You don't want the user who has been branded "morally corrupt" to respond to that post. At best, this thread will get dragged a bit further and one of them might get a ban also.
(2) The Newbies don't really know who "We" [as talked about in that post] are here. So, let not wrong message go to them.
(3) If still, the people with rights to edit (other than the user) feel, it was ok -> then continue ...

I actually agree with you. It is just that Derrida in his first post on the topic gave an impression that he was vehemently against the article himself. Thats the reason I feel this particular post of his was meant to be sarcastic. Anyway I guess like you said the Mods have to take a call whether personal attacks should be tolerated or not .
Regards
Edit .. Lol Derrida you might want to edit your post or atleast clear the air about the post
