re: [PaGaLGuY Debate] The dark side of our B-school campus cultures, traditions and more -
23-07-2008, 03:08 PM
Hi All,
No anonymocity.
My name is Arun Kumar Majumdar.
May I am not from a B School, I am only from an Engineering College which is considered good at West Bengal, and you need to manage ranks in WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) within 1500 out of 75K+ odd people to be there. It is Jadavpur University, I hope not more people from you have heard the name, But believe me it's a good Engineering College. In my college, there is a sports meet (especially football and cricket I am telling you all as I were very much part of them) of all departments, and you all believe me there were people specially invited to abuse other team and other team players. Once we (I am an Electrical Engineer) lost a match to Civil because our top Batsman ( RD,Electrical,Class of 2005) was so much upset since he was abused by a junior so harshly, he lost temparament and didn't play well. That day as I think now, none of us condemned the issue and was in thought that we need someone like A (Civil, Class of 2007) to abuse other teams as well. No more stories. I am sure some of you who understand bengali would find Arunava's and some other chap's abuse really innovating and surprising. What I am trying to say (I am not quoting anyone) these are the trends going on campuses for long. I am not here to
I. defend my IIM C friends (I have 30+ friends in this current 1st year Batch)
II. defend XLRI junta
III. condemn PG Admin
IV. to potray a story of my campus
V. Miscellaneous (I am above controversies)
I have some points to mention
I. Campused across the globe have cultures/mis-cultures of their own. Don't intervene as if it is right or wrong,it's the junta from the Campus are responsible for them
II. PG Admin must discuss this issue with Student Convenor of IIM C before posting. I am talking of a formal approval kind of thing.
III. Things/Events like this harm images of Institutes when came in public be it Harvard or be it a Kakdwip Engineering College.
Lots of Gyaan I hope.
Keep Rocking.
Later.
Arun

Gosh!!!! what is this? ....were the first words that came out of my mouth after watching this video. I was totally stumped...flabbergasted to be precise.
If someone would have said that this clip is from one of the Engineering college.....I would have agreed(because this is common in these campuses where maturity level is still very low) but atleast there also girls were never heard using such "cheap" languages. But to think that this happened right in the heart of our most prestigious institutes(so called B-schools...rolling of eyes) where 60-70% of the people are having industry experience under their belt was just too much.
This by no means can be termed as a "friendly banter". How on earth can this be justified as friendly??
Even more shocking was reading these lines "students are formally coached by a stalwart from the second year in the skill of the most tasteless abusing"....Is this the way that the students are mentored to become future CEO's, Managers????

lol lol lol.let me laugh 1st on such a minor issue.keeping in view the different life styles in differnt insti campus',the remarks made by pg admin is more or less squalid.in our country many bizzare(odd or fantastic) dont often come to limelight, hence either they go un-noticed or get really old nough to get tapped by one or the other lately.so its quite palpable that people pour in their opinions which can go either ways when something unique(what we call wen somthin occurs 4 the 1st time) comes up to the picture.keeping our culture in view what PG admin has done is right cuz its the typical mindset of ppl to get modernised and add flavors to their originality tryin to be western or preponderate in every ways.sadly its factual to say that our country is still running 20 yrs behind when compared to all those western nations.it was a male dominated society and still it is.am not against seeing women in equal level.but basix never change.we cant churn out nething if there's no cream inside.forget abt havard or wharton cuz they stand a way ahead and there's a least chance of catchin them in artless actions as this video reveals out and even if they do ,they are smart nough to do it furtively cuz every campus life has its own style and they hav every right to mend it in their ways.it might be unwitting for some studs to swing this video out to public but the whole blame goes to same and PG admin is really concerned abt the aspiring mba scholars to make them aware abt all minute things thts happening in our best b-schools.and finally am entolling the PG admin who made it available to the public.its upto the involved ones in this video who should incubate and ask themselves abt the maladjusted opinions abt them and their insti culture.cuz if one stud gets unknowingly involved in some un-desired tasks he or she shouldnt forget that he or she's doin that at the expense of the insti culture as well as India's pride which obviously comes to stake.i guess this is the puport of PG admin to open this thread for discussion.
plz condone me if i offended ne1 newhere in my comments.
lyfe bcomes wot we make of it, and wot we make of lyfe dpends entirely on how we manage d ideas tht come to our brain
and its all total different if one doesnt hav a brain

frankly i'm confused....many ayes and many noes...just like yesterdays parliament debate...
anyways what i'm about to write is not meant to offend anyone...
i feel that those who are supporting or are ok(not everyone mind you) with this culture are still aspiring MBAs and they want to enjoy such stuff..
and those who are appalled (not everyone mind you) probably couldn't get to these prestigious B-schools...
my thoughts may sound senseless but hey this is still a free country and everyone is has a right to sound senseless....

re: [PaGaLGuY Debate] The dark side of our B-school campus cultures, traditions and more -

Firstly there is nothing wrong in putting that video on this site. The people working inside pagalguy need to earn their bread butter and cake and we can all give our hugely valuable opinions here but I think bread comes first... I dont enjoy Aaj tak too much and I dont watch it... Obviously I dont post or read pagalguy too much these days either. That some of us do that, it does not make Aaj Tak or pagalguy.com wrong. There are plenty of people interested in such stuff. And yeah if you believe this site (+ DJK their new employee?) is fighting for morality, class, crass or some kind of similar crap... Er... I would really look for some proof of IQ...
So apologies...I post this without really reading all the posts here fully... Call it WorkLife balance. Or the quality of this website today. Just that the initial article itself got some of its facts wrong. So just felt could just clear that up a bit... I dont think IIMCians like to give details publicly about all our traditions which are really something students decide on... Things change and have changed over the years... Tradition is an approximate word to talk about the things that happen in campus... Yes giving gaalies bindaas has been happening over the years during the XL-IIMC sports meet... Running naked in public, Frat Orgies which happen in some of the Ivy league colleges in the US do not happen here yet... But I think India is not that advanced a society yet... The average IQ of our country is really way to low for us to even imagine for that to happen here. We are a poor country and its mostly because we are not smart enough to be rich. We are also not that smart a society to "let others run naked" without having riots due to it.
Getting back to the facts... This happened on the XL campus and not inside IIMC. To get some basic facts wrong is the biggest sign of poor quality editing and journalism. No one is welcoming no one in that video... Just some of the smartest women in India doing something they are themselves not sure is right or wrong. Exactly what 23 year olds are supposed to be doing... not caring sometimes about right or wrong. Who cares anways about right or wrong. Most of the times its relative and most of the time not the real issue... Its for stupid journalists to talk about and earn their bread. 25 years later when we see that video... It will bring to us IIMCians and Xlers a smile. The rest doesnt matter. Also the coaching thing is the stupidest thing Ive heard. I believe the girls do get together and plan the war against XL... There is no damn coach!
Anyways, Sorry to disappoint you... You can pay your tax, go on and on and give ur valuable opinions but the traditions of JokaLand are and will always be defined changed understood only by IIM Calcutta students... At the end of the day to put it bluntly... folks who couldnt get into IIM Calcutta are not the right people to talk about whether we have class or crass while on campus. Opinions are by definition a dime a dozen and we can see that there are opinions here that pagalguy.com and its employees are really showing their true colours crassy behaviour etc etc... I dont believe in either opinions. So the bottomline is there is always no point in being self righteous. Anyways... if you still have not enrolled for an MBA program and you want to change IIMC traditions... you know what to do...
Good Luck for CAT 2008.
K

What DG?
Such a biased and one sided post? Looks you have been away from writing for long................."I Rest I Rust" :sarcasm:
But anyways as a request please restrain from generalizing behavior for people on whole and in particular (please) restrain from commenting on Indians' abilities/IQ.
And not to forget,

Ok amidst all the allegations ,counter allegations and general lack of coherence in many arguments there is one teeny weeny detail I hope to get clarified.
All the people who are harping on the "sensation" bit and claiming this is surely Pagalguy.com's answer to what's-it's-name tabloid or channel I am very curious to know how they worked out that more number of hits means more revenues? I mean surely readers and posters on this thread are aware that gone are the heydays of early 2000 where advertising revenue was decided on "eyeballs" and now it is most likely pay per click?
I would love to be corrected if I am wrong.
But if I am right can you kindly stop harping on the "revenue" angle and actually,I dont how to put this gently, but actually go on and defend your culture, your tradition or whatever it is floats your boat?
I am just curious on the revenue aspect.
So my curious mind wants to know the statistics of page views and click throughs of this thread and the advertisement for clearly don't you know pagalguy.com has to earn "bread" first and this is clearly a devious design on their parts to "sensationalize" the issue just to increase the number of hits, hide their insecurity because they did not get into IIM ( we will ignore one has gone to mm..Wharton,another didnt take IIM K, another IITK and has no intention of doing his MBA etc etc ).
Please continue the fun.
