although women r no less than men in any field ............. still v find at some places that discrimination b/w the two is visible in many sense. Since, i'm an undergraduate i'm not much aware the corporate workplace scenerio but what I observed in the campus recruitment was this:
Some companies coming for campus openly admitted in their presentation before recruitment "it would be easier for the girl's to get selected than the boy's b'coz we want to set up an ideal ratio b/w the two at our workplace" ........I think this is fair by no mean's.
even I have experienced such things buddy, infact , 2-3 dessrving male candidtaed lost out on CISCO systems seat because they had to take 50% women from the campus as a company policy. .....now how ridiculous is dat??
and the scene is worse in corporate world dost, the sad part is that in most cases of such injustice, it is the women who actually ask for favors and then speak that women are no less then men on a different forum.

I guess it is upto women to understand that favors to them will only deepen this divide

well, am against reservation of any type, for the simple reason that something thats achieved without a struggle/ fight is not worth.. But unfortunately women reservation has become a trump card for political parties. further some companies have woken up late to the fact that having more women helps the organisation. Well this is becoz, the inherent capacities of men n women are different and we need the symphony of both to build a successful organsiation. However the haste with which companies are tryin to bridge the gap is only complicating the issue. Hope we have a free system without any room for reservations. Having said that i blv one needs to understand n celebrate the differences b/w men n women. This helps create a vibrant atmosphere.
just to add most coys have only some reservation fr girls, there are a few companies that visit our campus n say that girls are not eligible -

Individuals asking for favors is nothing new. Irrespective of the gender, some ppl do try to get some favor or the other by any means.
I personally havent seen women asking for promotions etc. Yeah but if flirting with the mgr to get some favor is wrong then the mgr is to be blamed (for letting us guys down).

I dont think the really competent girls give a damn to the nari mukti types of female leaders who try to give the impression that girls are always oppressed.

well said buddy!!

I agree that having a good gender ratio does help in ways that may not be very obvious, but what actually led to this situtation of male dominance in corporates and oder areas was not lack of merit on women's part but their oppression on a social level and they not being allowed to show wat they hav got...

and u r spot on wen u say that companies are actually hurryign up more than required to fill that gap....i guess what is required is that more social awareness, education opportunities be given to women and such hindrances removed from their path,,,then we will see that over a course of time, there will be no gender gap as equal number of talented, educated and ambitious women will naturally be at the positions were they deserve to be

I guess that is the way ahead and we so called intellectual capital of the society have a responsibility in preventing people from getting swayed into reservation propaganda of politicians

two thumb's up for that .......
you've set up the discussion in the right direction............i feel personally that by giving some undue favour's in some particular cases u can never act at bridging the gap that has existed b/w men n women in the corporate world. I respect the physical and metaphysical differences b/w men n women and I even think that there should be an ideal ratio b/w the two in the workplace, but the way of doing that should be rationalised. The companies should not try to rush into this, rather they should developed a stratergy for doing so in which merit is not sacrificed. I think this would work out well for women as well as for the business firms.

This was not a good interview at all...
no probs with the guest choosen..atlest we came to know that these kind of people do run a business( and are CEO's)..

the kind of attitude and arrogancy, that was reflected in her replies was not appriciable at all...Being a part of family business, she can't even realise what are the problems faced at the ground level..

I bet, no other company will pick her for a top management job..

She can't relate herself with her employes then how come she run an organisation..according to her, all those great people who build great Organizations were fools...and so we are because we are studying MBA.

I find this thing ambiguous
Women claim equal rights as men and then the same women are given special luxuries
Why this dubious thing?
If it is the question of equal rights(which should be the case),then these "advantages" should cease to exist
Merit should be the sole parameter
I think nobody minds to be beaten by someone of greater caliber but if the other person is given undue favour, then the whole purpose becomes skewed
I guess the intention of giving this "advantage" is to ensure a healthy sex ratio at the workplace which in turn will ensure a congenial working atmosphere
But needless to say, such discrepancies only worsen the situation
Men became jealous of the advantages women get,and as a result a latent flow of jealousy/rivalry does creep in
