Just to highlight conflicting schools of thought, while recruiting talent for senior management roles, some companies believe that it helps to have a solid technical foundation of the underlying business to function effectively at the management level. Others believe it is important NOT to blinded by the nitty gritties of the micro issues and focus more on the commercial elements of the business. More scope for the proverbial 'out-of-the-box' thinking. And the medical profession is no different, when it comes to this topic. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to MartianOnEarth For This Useful Post:

Well the way I see, every thing is getting so corporatised, the docs too need to be managers and leaders, hospitals are expanding like corporates.....the MBA bandwagon is just becoming bigger.......
Cheers

I fully agree and support the idea that doctors should consider opting for an MBA from a reputed institute; pref the IIMs.
the reasons for going for a MBA course are multiple but the main reason is MONEY and that too at an early stage of your career.
There is a lot of money in medicine, but it usually comes when one is arounf 38-45 years of age. I dont believe that in this fast paced world people are willing to wait for that long to enjoy life, atleast monetarily.
I have a few friends who opted for either the IAS or MBA after MBBS and I think that they made the rght decision. They are financially more stable having a more defined career path as compared to my other batchmates who opted for a 'traditional' MD and DM route.

Informative article.
As a medstudent, considering an MBA,I'd like to make a few points.
Reasons why many docs go the MBA way-
1.They're looking for a better work environment.
(There should be something along the lines of the RSPCA for docs.Seriously.)
2.The corporatization of medicine.
3.Longer incubation period of a medical post/graduate.
(Average age at graduation-24 years.Postgraduation is 3-5 years.)
4.Closure of avenues in postgraduate medicine.
(PLAB shut the door on Indians,USMLE's a tough nut to crack,
Aussies not easier either and India ofcourse has reservations, limited seats
and leakage of papers every year.)
5.Money (debatable and questionable.Either line of work could prove
more lucrative in the long run.)
Looking forward to more on the subject.

hey you guys are right and it is obvious that doctors are humans so they also want to have monetary benefits from the job they do but apart from this what i think is now in India we actually need Well managed health care system.
i myself is a doctor and also opting for mba and mha degree but i am not at all inclined to enter the cooperate world. but ofcourse targeting some good hospital companies in India like Apollo, escorts,Fortis etc. i think if we can learn some skills of management, we can bring out a revolutionalised growth in health sector in India.
it is not only we doctors but also the nation who can be beneffited by this, where we can have good enviornment as well as job satisfaction and people can have well managed health in there hands.
i know some of you may disagree, but we cannot deny the poor state of hospitals specially public hospitals in our country, neither can we deny our responsibility as doctors..............

Hello
I have no idea why doctors prefer to go for MBA.One guess work is to
settle in high growth oriented software fields where they can retrieve
the lost money in their fee . | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to BOBBY341 For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
