Psycho D,

I think prep can get you to a 99.5 +%ile score, but not without the basic DNA in place (read as 92-95 %ile overall, 85%ile +sectionals )

Let's take you for example. On any given day, given the verbal section of a paper, you would almost certainly be a 99+ %iler.

Munira has been doing the 99.5+ %iles consistently across all 3 sections, for a few years now, including awesome overall %iles.

And for people who think after giving CAT for a few years, people should anyway be getting 100%iles, I'd laugh LOUDLY, and bump up old threads of veteran CAT takers

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

Meet Hippy Bogus

Psycho is spot on but being rather mild... actually showing he is gentle with the ladies:wink:

One must remember that Munira is in the business of coaching people for the CAT. Do you think she is going to tell us cracking CAT requires a certain minimum IQ. She would lose business if she said that When you do business in this world you dont really mind any paying customer.

But the coaching industry is not going to tell you this. They want atleast 50000 people to think that they can crack this. So that they can laugh about this joke while making their way to the bank.

Too many people are spending too much time studying for this test and most of them waste a lot of money too.

Personally I feel writing a good number of Mock CATs say upto 8-15 of them preferably in an organized environment and maybe some at home... A few interesting books/references on math that raise your interest in the subject, puzzles which are fun to solve anyways, reading books on diverse topics, spending time on forums such as these interacting with those who have written it and are writing it, and studying the actual CAT questions for the last five years is about what is needed. And too much over this prep level can actually be harmful because your stress levels and expectations are raised to unnatural levels and that is generally the undoing of many a stud brain.

Being reasonably prepared and not being overtly serious as a result of which your reflexes are at a natural high is the real way to boost your CAT score.

Infact maybe Munira cracked 100% this time and not the first time she wrote when she prepared really seriously purely because there was nothing at stake this time.

K

This is in a nutshell, according to me, the only thing you need to know or do to crack CAT.

IIMs have been giving the score cards since just 3 yrs now , else she wld have had many more 100s. The article is gr8 but completely misses the aptitude angle to it. I read some where on PG itself where Munira said she hasnt met a single person who matches her aptitude. But this consistensy does add a lot of credibility and competition(other coaching instis) has a job at hand. Soon we may have the 99.9+ club fully occupied by these institute ppl

What's obvious is obviously wrong

Hi,
This is primarily in response to DG. Though it may surprise you but I have actually refused students. Two students last year and five students this year. I think it is fairly obvious that all students cannot crack the CAT, a case in point is my house maid . Where we all disagree will be the number of students who have the potential to crack the CAT. It would be a good survey to find out how many students actually go to the exam center feeling confident about the preparation they have put in, I think very few. If there are x students then I am sure that less than x/10 students do not get calls. The article is meant to clear issues around how to prepare.
Also it would be interesting to see an article on aptitude preparation, that to assuming one year MAX preparation. Such an article should be gifted to the parents of the student very early in life, sir aap puzzles karege to aap ke honewale baccho ka iq badhega? Or mam badam khaiye......
If a person solves one equation then it may be a fluke, (God knows I have seen enough of those cases in IIMC). But a person who solves all equations given to her of various types. Then perhaps he/ she can actually write a book on how to solve equations or get into the "business" of tutoring students to crack equations. Cool analogy??
Munira.

Maybe you are right that a person is best suited to his or her abilities and a person good in equations can start teaching it. However, specialist creates professionals and attitude creates character a point which I would like to make... and lets not forget everyone here has come to prepare and share their thoughts and create a blueprint in order to crack CAT and achieve what you have achieved. A Feat which we all would like to achieve.

Munira had another very good and inspiring article to her name when she was the head at IMS in Mumbai - this features in the starting pages of teh CAT Exemplar available from IMS...it is a real good motivator...I used to read it as and when i needed motivation...and i will continue doing so...

Kudos to you...

Ashish
