Re: Discussion thread on job profiles after MBA - 01-09-2009, 11:42 PM

Hello everyone,

I am a graduate from IIT Bombay ( Civil Engg.) . I am currently working as a Planning Engg in Oman. I am putting my query in this section as I guess you ppl must be the best to answer my question. I wish to do an MBA in Operations Management after 2 yrs,, and I wish to know whether my current experience as a Planning Engg. would count that much when I apply to a B school of an international level. Operations and Management is where I wish to make my career in future , so should I change my field or continue getting experience in the same construction industry? Please help.

Nice Asif for your post.
I think if you pretty clear about Operations management, You could aslo look to do a PHD in it( IF edcuation sector/Teaching in BSchools)..you may have to do masters before it say an MA or something you may check in google but it surely would be good move too..I have a known who did the same so i suggested you.

Thanks

Hi friends..I am Shlok singh from Delhi....I guess the link which you have provided is very useful to me as i am plannng to change my job,but side by side I am also planning to do MBA from the premium college. I guess after doing MBA the type of job profile which I am expecting will get.
I have made the list of the college in which I always wanted to get in like:-
ISB,great Lakes,EABS(EuropeAsia Business School),pune,Tasmac etc..

Also the placement from ths college has been beyond expectation particularly this year......Lets hope for the best....

Hi,
My journey through MBA was rather a tough terrain.Somehow i decided to choose Finance as Specialization. So I completed my MBA in 2007 from not so good college affiliated to Pune University, managed to get a job in Financial services - BPO.The profile there was of back office mainly cut, copy, paste business in excel.I was disappointed with the profile but had no option..My personal life took a turn( got married ) and i worked there for 1 yr..Now i have got a gap of nearly 1 1/2 yr and now i want to start my career fresh. My in Pune,n its really difficult to find a Finance job with a good profile in any niche sector..Only options available are BPO where i do not wish to work..
Plz suggest me how to plan my career, should i take any certification as i have none, any diplomas..I was thinking of CFA ..but do not whether i cud easily pass that n options thereafter..Plz share ur views about what i should try..i do not have any personal preference as banking, risk etc..

Hi Sona,

It is difficult for anyone in India to get a "proper finance" profile. Most finance profiles deal with selling of financial products or back office operations which would involve a lot of your copy, paste and excel formulas. You could look at NCFM certifications to add to your resume while applying for banking jobs, but you need to be clear on exactly what kind of profile you want.
