To begin with, I'd like to copy-paste one of my earlier posts | Dear Anurag ,
Was always a fan of the way you post , I had read this post earlier also .I have a few questions , hope you find time to answer .
I am interested in systems , always had an inclination towards computers
abt me
No exp in any IT iNDUSTRY , no langauages known .. no programming known... have around 5 years of manufacturing experience , was involved in erp implementation ..we had a small firm which developed the erp for us .. so was involved with it ..
My question to you would be
1. Is a BA profile entirely ruled out ?
2.What do I need to work on ,if the profile is not ruled out .
3.Is doing my summers in an entirely unrelated indutry (in marketing ) going to make much of a difference if I sit for my final placements in an I.T industry ..
regards

Try to explore these options, you might find the job description interesting Quote:

shailesh | Hi Shailesh,
Thanks for your kind words I'm by no means an expert on this, but based on whatever little experience I possess I would suggest you would be better off exploring the other options that I had mentioned. While one cannot rule out the BA profile for a person with Non-IT background, the job will be difficult for such people because the BA is expected to Act as an Interface between the Development team and the Customer....sometimes we are lucky when the Customer's team is IT savvy and pass on their exact requirements in a technical language (I'm trying my best to avoid any of the technical jargons here ), but that's not the case always. In other cases the BA is expected to understand the customer requirements (+ discover unstated requirements), propose a technically feasible solution (sometimes in consultation with the techies) and communicate the requirements to the Development team in a language that they understand. Good BAs not only understand customer requirements but they also act as consultants on choice of technology/platform etc. and help the development team in deciding the System Architecture. If you think you can pick up such skills before you finish your MBA, then go ahead Otherwise there are a lot of other excellent options for a person like you in the IT Industry, specially in domain consulting / marketing etc.

| IT is for those who have attitude for it! -
12-10-2006, 10:25 PM
( Below is input from my Senior ) As many of us always say, IT is for those who have attitude for it. It's an attitude to do things better with continuous learning. And many times it takes over educational background while making a successful career in IT. An attitude which always doesn't demand to make things bigger but while making things better few eventually becomes bigger! As a non-IT graduate, I could not draw a picture of computer (with all connections) in one of my MBA-Marketing class in 1998-99… But start of very next year; I was in one of the IT Company as a Trainee. With huge learning efforts could reach to the level of Project Manager in 3 years. During those days, learnt writing 1st computer program in Visual Basic, struggled why down arrow key is not giving me Enter key effect… During the same days, could explore many technologies, languages, etc.It reached to the pick when I used to share platform with Microsoft for delivering few sessions on Microsoft .Net to developer community. To unlearn the theories & experience I got while working in IT, came to PUMBA in 2002 for my 2nd specialization in Systems. Those days I learnt C for the 1st time. Attending those sessions on Software Engineering, Project Management and for that matter C too, gave me a huge confidence & boost to the career. Hope few of my batch mates remember my presentation on Microsoft .Net Web Services in PUMBA in 2003. It immediately resulted in making dream come true of working with Microsoft in my 4th year in IT! Continuous exploration in Technologies, Software Engineering, Business Analysis, Solution Architecting, UML, RUP, Project Management, CMM, PSP-TSP, 6-Sigma and many more concepts always gave me upper hand over others. With this knowledge base, I could lead-manage project delivery teams in India, London, Japan, USA. Recently could push myself ahead in Program Management & Portfolio Analysis. Definitely this career is blessed but with more than 100% efforts put on learning & exploration! You still need other details? Trust me guys; it’s The Best in industries. Hope you will get many other questions answered while going through my presentations on Career in IT, PMI Certified PMP & few more planned in future. Till then keep learning & exploring!
