You can still pursue a good career in systems with hefty pay packages..In fact you can play the role of a domain consultant (e.g. Manufacturing vertical consultant/Insurance vertical consutant). In fact SP jain has a course on MBA Systems worth watching out for..

SPJIMR - SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai

Marketing would be a good choice if you want to get into an FMCG company i think..if you are looking for sales roles or pre sales or BD roles in IT companies in think a system mba would do you a world of good.

PGP(SM)-MIT (formerly PGDSM-MIT) is a two year full time residential program at SP Jain that is designed to create professionals who have an excellent grasp of general management concepts, a specialisation in systems management, and an in-depth knowledge of IT.

This is a dual degree program where you end up getting a
1. Systems Management degree from SP Jain, Mumbai
2. Masters in IT degree from Virginia Tech, USA, reputed highly abroad

In the PGP(SM)-MIT program, faculties from Virginia Tech and Pamplin College of Business actually fly down to the SPJIMR campus to take various courses. Take a look at our course curriculum here: SPJIMR - SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai

Admissions for the 2008 batch are opening shortly. You can get details about admissions here: SPJIMR - SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai

Thanks all for the insightful information,

Can anyone shed some light on the scenario for systems managers, esp in the IT sector , given the fact that there is a slump in the markets.........

I'm thinkin of applying to SPJIMRs PGD(SM)-MIT.......i've also got a convert to BIMTECHs PGDM course........I'm a fresher currently in the final year of B.tech in ECE........

will it be better for me to go in for a syatems specialization or some fin or mrkting specialization??

thanks again

Re: MBA Systems - Have done MBA in Systems and is rocking today... - 24-04-2008, 12:49 PM

Guys,
I have 10 months of work-ex with CSC & expecting a call from SPJain(Systems) as my XAT %ile is quite gud but I am pretty confused at the moment .I don't have any problem with the salary packages offered to the students graduating in Systems from there .In fact the packages have been better than NITIE, IIFT but I am quite confused about the kind of roles which I ll get after doing MBA(systems) .Can you guys please help me out with my queries:

1> Given the fact that I am nt da kinda of guy who's much interested in Technical stuff n all more inclined to marketing n all will I get Marketing roles after doing MBA(systems) in IT companies ?

2> What is the use of doing MBA(Systems) when most of the people join as BA in IT cos. If I am nt wrong ,with 6 years of work ex in an IT company you can become a business anaLyst so y do MBA ?

3>Talking about Pre-sales & ERP implemenation roles which are offered to graduates it's really not very clear to me as to what these guys do & how much techincal things you have to learn (as I have already told above ,I despise technical stuff ) ?

4>Are roles of Business Development Managers offered to people with 3+ years of work ex during campus placements or will people like me have an equal opportunity to sit for them ?

Would be grateful if somebody can asnwer the queries above.
Thanks a ton!!!
