The lack of any reco letters, no essays, no extra-cirix...all this makes me beleive that the call is based on the GMAT and only GMAT.. just like the Call in India is based on CAT and only CAT...
As far as i can tell, the IIM-A guys are strictly looking at the GMAT scores while looking at the NRI junta/persons of indian origin...

As far as the non -indian guys are concerned, i think the IIM-A would lower the scales. (Thanks to a prevalent perception that Indians are amongst the smartest Gmat takers..so a higher cuts off are needed..) ..

Frankly, we all have given the GMAT and the difference between a 720 and 770 at IIM-A seems to translate to a call or a reject.. This is very similar to the difference between a 0.1 % percentile difference above or below the cut-0ffs...

It is my guess that a call at IIM-A would require a 99% cut-offs...in gmat.. that is 750 or more...(This applies to the Indian crowds.. I cant comment on the minority foreign candidates who get scores upwards of 750 and wanting to go IIM-A when they could just as easily get in the US top ten MBA there..

All those still in agony, and who havent recieved the email, .. dun loose hope .. Assuming that IIM-A selects one candidate out of every 5 shortlisted and that it eventually selects 5 guys ..that means at least 20 candidates will get a call... and thats not too bad when u consider the limited number of applications IIM-A gets.. ( around 50 -100 applications )... Also remember that IIM-C and IIM-B also take students from this same pool.. so hang in
there guys ..!!

I fervently wished that some one at IIM-A who has gotten in thru the GMAT route could address this thread....it will make a lot of things more clearier..
Anybody there?...

Meanwhile, I have heard that this year onwards there is gonna no GD .. only Personal interviews.. is this true ? .. is it localised to The GMAT junta only ?..

Anyways.. lets congratulate all those who have crossed the first hurdle.. and wish all the best who couldnt make it this year... (@pavitra, there are still a lot of fantastic colleges who would kill to accept a 720 gmat score.. )

Keep the thread alive and others informed.. information is the single most crucial weapon , we have ..

Cheers
Rascal..
P.s : ignore all typos and grmammer mistakes..
Hi All....

Just logged on to PG and found this discussion. I am an "overseas" candidate currently in IIM-A (First Year). My profile was
GMAT : 750
Work Ex :57 months

I think that the speculation that A looks at GMAT scores only is not unfounded, but am not sure if they actually have a set number in mind of the number of GMAT candidates. I feel that they shortlist candidates on the scores and then, put them in the grind with the other CAT candidates for the GD and PI. At least this was the case last year!!

Congrats to those who made it, and for others, well it is not the end of the world.

PM me if u need any more info...

Cheerios )

PagalKahinka, thanks for your suggestion.

I finally succumbed and called up IIM Ahd last night. They were very surprised that I hadn't heard back. They asked me to email them and said they would get back to me soon.

This morning, just half an hour ago, I woke up and saw that I had received an email from them and I'm very excited to share with you, that they have decided to extend me an invitation to interview with them. It still hasn't sunk in, given the fact that they kept me waiting for 3-4 extra days.

Anyway, my profile for those of you who don't know it.

GMAT - 760
Work Ex - 6 months
GPA - 8.825
Xth - 93 %
XIIth - 92.4%

Congratulations Rascal!

Did you have to email them or did they contact you? Where are you now and which center are you planning to give the interview in?

I believe all the IIMs are taking approximately 1 month to get back to their candidates. Going by that, I am assuming that we should hear back from IIM-Kolkata around the last week of Jan or the first week of Feb.

Also, it looks like our interviews are being clubbed with the CAT students, so if we do get an IIM C call it should be in mid or end of March. But we'll know for sure soon enough.

Best of Luck !

Re: NRI Admission to IIM - 18-01-2008, 06:52 PM

I think it must be than when Sandipan called the IIM A guys, in their hurry , Sandipan's and my forms might have got somehow attached!!..
(hehe.. Am not complaining...)
Jokes apart..
got it in the email..

As far as IIMC is concerned.. no response yet from them...
I just mailed them asking it they have recieved my application or not..
Will let u know when I get a reply..

So far.. on this thread.. only 5-6 ppl have managed the calls..
I think there ought to be more..

Meanwhile.. what should be strategy now ? ..

How to proceed ahead ? .. Unlike the CAT crackers.. they have the IMS, TIME guys drilling all the gyan into them...

any suggestions ?..
Cheers
Rascal..

Re: NRI Admission to IIM - 18-01-2008, 07:47 PM

As long as you got the invite Rascal...everything else is inconsequential!

I'm really not sure what advantage, attending a coaching class will give someone. I spoke to a friend of mine who is at IIM Ahd, and he told me that for the most part the panelists will focus on what we put down in the form sent to us. I guess that form will just be a condensed version of our CVs. Focus on articulating your experiences, your ambitions, why IIM makes sense for overseas/NRI candidates and be very clear about everything on the CV. Combine that with general awareness, newspaper/Economist. I can't think of anything else that we can really do. At least thats how I intend to go about it.

BTW, can anyone confirm if this year there is no GD for Ahd?
