| SP Jain GI (Group Interview) Experiences (2008) -
15-01-2008, 12:59 PM
Hi,
While I know that there is a thread for the discussion of GD/PI, I thought iot would make sense for a thread where users post their experiences. There's a lot more information on that thread, for anyone to go thorugh.
Puys, please post how your GI experience was like.

If you have the belief to choose your road
If you have the courage to stay on it
If you have the conviction to surmount the rough stretches
If you do..you will find the road begins to follow you

@All
There is already an existing thread for SPJIMR Group Interview related discussions: http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...s-profile.html ([2008] SPJIMR Call getters Profile & Group Interview related Discussions)
I do not really know if there is a requirement for this new thread. Requesting moderators to please go through both the threads and decide to close one of them / rename accordingly.

| Is this thread needed? -
18-01-2008, 11:13 AM
Hi,
While we realise that there is a similar thread, that one has too many generic queries, on calls, profiles, what to do if I have filled details wrong etc. and 60 odd pages of that. The idea here is to simply share and discuss the GI exp. cause thats all that a lot of us want. A better idea of what happens there. Anyways if mods feel need to integrate both the threads so be it, not much action here anyway

Hi all,
Had my interview on 16th Jan, 11 clock session. Went in at ten, they verified my 10th, 12 th and college marksheets, work ex certificate. My interview started around 11.10. There were six of us. We were asked to introduce ourselves. They patiently listened as we all rambled. Then they spent 5- 7 minutes on each person individually questioning them on what they had said. For me:
1.Why do you like Bharathanatyam?
2. Has Dance helped your career?
3.Give an instance where dance helped u perform better in work
4.You’re from DAV, then SSN. I know both the institutions well. How was the transition like? Did u find any difference?
5. Who is the principal of DAV?
6. Is discipline that important?
7. Give an instance where discipline helped you
8. What about innovation then? I said innovation and discipline are not contradictory and gave a puzzled look. They said , “ya, what do u think is the relation between discipline and innovation? I said something about discipline paving way to value based innovation and they were quite satisfied with this answer.
In about ten minutes they told us we were selected 5 got selected from my panel. We were made to take a psychometric test. there were 24 columns. Each column had 4 words, adjectives rather. In each column, I had to select the word which describes me the best and that describes me the least. Was pretty ok, although selecting words was kinda tuff sometimes.
Second round- started in 15 minutes after the test. It had 2 proffs- more senior and serious looking proffs. And one first year girl from spj. She was sweet, had an encouraging expression in her face. - Have you all been to Bombay before? What did u think about Bombay?
“ya when I was in class 7. the night life of Bombay..”
I was interrupted, “7th std u knew about night life of Bombay??”
I said “No I was about to say shops were all open past midnight, very energetic and active city”
“oh ok” - Why mba? And whatever we answered they kept trying to say “for that u could have opted for something else, why mba?
- somebody said something about managers and leaders so they imm questioned “are managers leaders?what is the diff?” we all gave our opinions one by one.
- ok lets have a gd now. MBA characters are hyped. Discuss.
Inbetween the gd I mentioned something about hype being an aspect of marketing and the proffs started out another sub gd on marketing and lying. Then they themselves asked us to revert back to the original gd topic and conclude it. - What channels do u watch?
- What are values? How would u define values ? one by one we all answered.
- What are ur values? As and when ppl answered , they were sub questions like “are honesty and integrity the same?” etc.
- What are ur views on Tata nano? Here too they asked a few sub questions based on what people answered.
- What do u consider ur greatest acievement?
- What management book have u read?
- What book has impacted u the most?
- What other institutes have u applied other than spj?
- Sum up in one line, why should we select u?
It lasted for probably 40- 50 minutes. Basically u an steer the interview to your convenience. I was the 5th in the panel. It was sometimes advantageous, by the time the question was asked I had enough time to listen to others and frame and answer that is radically different to ensure they notice me. It was disadvantageous sometimes as by the time they came to me they used to say “ ok ok” quickly and push off. Over all, it was amazing. I was so confident about the whole interview that for the last question I simply said “because I’ve done the interview well”. Let see. All the best to the others! Know about yourself in and out. And a bit about Glaring current affairs. That should do. | | | | | The Following 24 Users Say Thank You to charanyakannan For This Useful Post: | a1_gaurav (09-03-2008), abhuram (23-02-2008), agilan83 (29-01-2008), aks1 (26-01-2008), AlpeshChaudhari (27-03-2008), anayash (16-02-2008), anir-iim2005 (27-01-2008), ck1 (08-04-2008), ershalabh (26-02-2008), esh.nil (30-01-2008), harenik (25-02-2008), keep_smiling (26-01-2008), kk kishore (04-03-2008), Mackenna (29-01-2008), minkuvg (05-02-2008), Obsessed_bout_mba (26-01-2008), praveerkhaitan (26-01-2008), RALA (15-04-2008), shekys (23-02-2008), shree.rrw (15-03-2008), smrithismrithi (12-03-2008), sriki19 (27-01-2008), varunmohta (12-03-2008), yettobepaid (26-01-2008) | | | | |

Hi puys
I had my interview yesterday and it was a great experience of sorts... My first GI began at 10:15 AM..there were 7 people (4 with workex>2 yrs, two were 2007 passouts and one fresher).. It began with the normal introduction to ease out the tension.. Then we were asked to select an issue which we thought was close to our heart.. issues ranged from brain drain, corruption. social service, unemployment and so on.. then we were asked to formulate a topic which would encompass all of these topics.. We zeroed down on a topic name and then there was a discussion on that for around 10 min. Then there was some grilling from our profile sheet.. I had mentioned that i love reading books and newspapers.. So, was asked to talk abt my fav book and was asked to compare the newspapers 'HINDU' and the 'Times Of India'. A person who had opted for finance was grilled on the subprime.. The panel member asked him to recommend her few stocks which he felt would reap good dividends.. Then they gave us a scenario that we had to assume that we r the panel members and had to grill the person on our left with one question of our choice.... Once this got over, they asked us if we wanted to know something abt spjain.. This concluded the 1st round... It was 11:30 by the time we came out...
4 ppl from my group got thru to the next round.. and surprise surprise, i got thru too i found it hard to believe .. Took sometime for the feeling to sink in
Then we had our round 2.. 7 ppl again(6 guys and a girl.. one fresher and others with some work ex) .. totally chilled out panel.. kick started with we talking abt our USPs .. The girl mentioned abt robotics.. so we were asked to discuss the areas where we can use robotics and where we could not... Then some ppl were grilled on their work.. it was chilled out... Then there was a discussion on the sydney test match for abt 5-7 min.. In between the girl was asked to sketch the panelists as she was good at painting..A guy was asked to advertise an event (as he was into RJing in college) Thats just about it.. It was all of 20 min...
In between the two GI's we had a pyschometric test... . nothing to worry about... All in all, a great experience... My first GI ever.. so had a lot to take from this experience.....
As for the ADCOM committee, they were thoroughly professional.. Hats off guys.. U r doing a fantastic job.. kudos
I didnt get the opportunity to meet our heroes- Prasanna and Abhinav.... I guess they were not present in the registration room... Wanted to thank them personally... Great job that u r doing guys, helping us aspirants out.... cheers to u guys....
And junta who have their interview lined up , all the very best.... Play it cool and be yourself...
