Re: Sentence Correction for CAT 2007 - 18-05-2007, 06:33 PM

Here are the answers and I have also given some explaination to my answers. Any suggestion is welcome.

1.
a.An evidence has to be used this way 'evidence of'. Hence false
b.This evidence speaks of the north indians not the calendar.
c.true
d.Again the evidence speaks of both the north indians and the calendar.
e.same as a.

2.

Since it is an event bieng stated so the ideal sentence would be in "the past tense"
only a is true in that case.

3.a,b are redundant with 'it'. c and d have wrong structures because sounds like the focus is too much on 'an american women'.

e soungs right.

4. Only a sounds right because its always 'consequence of' and d and e seems to be wrond because the tense in which they are stating the facts seem to be incorrect.

5.

a. too verbose and possible wrong usage of comma.
b. stress on the returning rather than land
c. correct
d. wrong usage of apostrophe
e.stress on the wrong word.

Re: Sentence Correction for CAT 2007 - 18-05-2007, 09:38 PM

1. (E) (sentence is in present continuous - should be in past tense wich is what option e gives)
2. (A) (correct)
3. (E) (all the remaining options are bulky and confusing. e is the most concise)
4. (A) (correct)
5. (C) (problem with the original sentence in incorrect punctuation. of all the options c retains the meaning and minds it Ps & Qs too )

Question Re: Sentence Correction for CAT 2007 - 20-05-2007, 01:44 PM

hey,

These are my answers:

1. e
[since "the first evidence" has to be of "advanced full-year calendars" not of "the north american indians".]

2. a
["had been allowed" is the keyword here..shows the continuity and agreement signifies allowing something to be done.]

3. e
[no need for repeating "it was" and "the second one only" doesn't suit here as "second" , "one" and "only" all coming together.]

4. a
["consequence from" and "consequence which" are straightforward wrong and "damaged" doesn't come into picture.]

5. a
["African land" is too awkward;"Africa which was the land" implies it is not a land now,may be a water body;and "some Black’s return" is simply wrong as Black is not an individual here.]

i can be wrong.
Waiting for answers..
