Hi Akshat,
I heard about Associate Dean Krembel Jones leaving Goizueta
From what I'd read / heard about him, he was a very dynamic person, and an integral part of Goizueta.

Any thoughts that current students would like to share about this development?

Thanks
-BT

Hi BT

Dean Kembrel's departure is definitely a loss to us. He was a great leader and was directing the whole MBA program office in the right direction. He would definitely be missed by the whole community.

On the way forward, Prof Steve Walton has been appointed as the new director of the MBA program. The management could not have picked a better person to lead the program. To be honest, most of us in the 1st year had not interacted with him prior to this event. After his appointment, there were many discussions about him and many of us interacted with him. I would try to give some info posted on our internal boards which i feel is true after interacting with him.

Info:
He is a prof. in the area of Decision Information & Analysis. He has taught the DIA core course (which is the toughest course in the 1st sem) many times in other programs of the school. He also teaches operations and he is currently teaching the sports management class. He is one of the most highly-awarded teachers in the building, winning six teaching awards including the highest award in the university. He is a "professor in the practice of," which means that he is more oriented to teaching, consulting, and writing about the practical real-world of business. He teaches many executive education classes and engages in outside consulting.

Comments from another professor : However, I don't feel the awards say enough about his professional approach. He has a quantitative background but takes a very holistic approach to teaching. He is known to easily shift back and forth between teaching quantitative methods and more qualitative psychological topics. In fact, he is regularly called upon to do a critical wrap-up session that integrates across many areas in the school -- marketing, finance, accounting, DIA, and O&M. He is quite skilled at asking very thoughtful questions within all of these topics. He believes that all the areas of our school represent important elements of running a successful company. His holistic view of business education and unconditional support for all interests within it will be a huge asset in his new role.

Within your first few meetings with him, you'll quickly get a sense of his character. He is a straight-shooter with little tolerance for BS. He is known to challenge students many times asking, "But what does that mean? What do I do with that?" You will find that there is no gap between what he says and what he means. What you see is what you get, and what you get is real and it's impressive. He is also extremely prompt in replying to querries, usually replies within 4 hours to any querry posted on internal conferences.

You'll find that he is very inclusive and will welcome and in fact seek out your opinions. Moreover, i must add that the school has many areas, professors, CMC, adcom, alumini, students who are still there. Infact the whole program office staff is the same.

I truly feel extremely positive about our future; we're in great hands.

I hope that helps you with some info.

Regards

Akshat
