| CAT 2006: Formulae for Error-correction -
15-12-2006, 05:17 PM
Dear all.
As the Junta is equally divided on the issue of CAT 2006 Error corrections, 2 options look as probable solutions: - CAT 2006 Retest
- A errors-correction formulae that aims at bringing all students on a level playing field.
This thread will be dedicated to discussions on a point no.2, probable error-correction forumulae. All discussions on what and how could a formulae be worked out so that the masses are considered on par with respect to the evaluation and result (considering common errors in all 4 paper sets and additional errors in set 4) of CAT 2006.
DO NOT debate that CAT 2006 should be a retest. For that head to the CAT 2006 Retest: Discussion and Plan of Action (CAT 2006 Retest: Discussions and Plan of Action)thread.
Also, be sure that you give a thought to your formulae thats its neutral as far as possible, c'mon we dont want to let down the IIMs in case they decide to browse this thread! ~MoNiL~ My CAT sojourn Success is going from Failure to Failure without loss of Enthusiasm - Winston Churchill.

My Formula:
Quant questions that were wrong: Scrap. If a person had attempted(correctly) the first question (in the set of 2 qs)...award him +8.
DI question that had 2 answers: Deem both correct.
VA: No Comments. Life is a sexually transmitted disease.

VA: No Comments. | Hi,
Hey what is this DI quest with 2 correct answers?/ Didn't come across this thing till now?
And, In the Quant wrong questions, I tried out 4 times and got the same answer everytime. Since it was not in options I chose to skip both the questions.
How would they differentiate b/w me and someone who didn't even attempt & what's wise in ticking a wrong answer????? | | | | | The Following User Says NO Thank You to dhruv.dingliwal For This Un-useful Post: | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to dhruv.dingliwal For This Useful Post:

scrap the wrong Q's.. in the 2 set Q scrap the second one if the answa is anythin othr than 30 and full marks if answa is 30 (people mite hav arrived at the answer of 15 and not finding it there, considering that there were 2 ppl travelling, marked 30)
DI both answers are rite..
VA of course there is no error only ambiguity (except for the partially printed Q in one set which naturally has to be scrapped)
phew!! quite some altering huh... like cuttin a nice evenin gown to miniskirt.. i feel thats the way out now.. rather than pulling it all off and puttin on a new one for mathematicians : 2+2=5 for large values of 2 | | | | | The Following User Says NO Thank You to buzzeG For This Un-useful Post: | | | The Following User Says Thank You to buzzeG For This Useful Post:

Hi,
I certainly believe that IIMs should certainly relieve cut offs and give more calls this yr since the wrong questions have harmed various students in diff ways..

What about the question which is printed correctly in a few sets and wrongly in a few in QA.
I think the marks should be awarded to people who attempted it correctly if the question was there to attempt for...
Regarding DI both the answers have to be given...
For VA there should be an explanation from IIM's for their key...

Dear All,
PFB my 0.02$:
1) QA - Exclude 3 questions from evaluation (2 Set Questions and one september wala)
2) EU - Exclude 1 question from evaluation
3) LR - I still think the contentious LR question has only one ans.
In a nut shell, the paper should be evaluated for a total of 288.
Thanks

ok here's my view...
waise.. I know that we have talked a lot about all of this and more... but anyways...
1)QA--- based on the set you've got... the questions get scrapped
2)DI--- both the options are correct!!!
3)EU--- 444.. that's a toughie... scrap it...
now we have different sets of marks for different sets of people (approx 50,000 in each set..) Extrapolate the marks to a common figure (lets say 300) and give out the percentiles on this...
now I know this thing has its own flaws.. the time wastage funda doesn't get involved (abt which people are very concerned)..
I would like to see a solution which takes care of that... | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say NO Thank You to anarchy For This Un-useful Post:
