Combating Child Sexual Abuse

I feel this is a great initiative. CSA has been around for so long, but unfortunately not much has been done to tackle it. What makes it worse is the fact that in some cases, children often don't even realize that they've been subjected to abuse till much later. So, in order to combat CSA, one needs to not only bring out such instances into the open, but also educate children and make them aware enough to understand if they're being subjected to CSA.

In case there's a Delhi chapter of Elaan coming up, I'd be more than willing to be part of it.

There is usually a short quiz to see how much you know (or don't know!) about CSA..

Also, there are internships on offer for students who would like to spend their summer constructively and help us spread awareness about the issue through our programs.

The problem of CSA is not a new one in any society and it still exist in present day world, this clearly shows the inefficiency of law making (government) and law maintaining (police) organizations.
And now a days media take such incidences as an opportunity to gain business advantages in spite of helping the victim in getting justice.
I strongly recommend the hardest of punishments to child sex abusers so that the people can learn a lesson from the culprits and never dare to commit this sin in life.

As part of it's committment to combat CSA from all directions (literally), we are organizing a special interactive session with the support group for members of the LGBT community called "Swikriti"
with whom we have a long-standing association.
All details are provided below and all are welcome to attend and provide input or just listen.

Given that the subject matter is extremely sensitive in nature, we request you to refrain from making hurtful or judgemental comments that may affect others.

Interactive session between Elaan and Swikriti on Saturday April 12th from 5:00 pm onwards at the Elaan office ;

SUB : Sexuality and Sexual Abuse - A convenient taboo ?

As part of it's campaign to involve all existing facets of society in the "Combat Child Sexual Abuse" awareness and intervention programme, Elaan invites members of Swikriti and of it's own organization to an interactive session on the above.

The objective is to bring forward some of the common problems faced by organizations and activists in context with encouraging solidarity and awareness on the issues of sexual abuse and sexuality, which although different subjects, share a common tag of social ostracization and stigma between them.

Through this discussion we hope to establish common grounds for solution-based plans which may be used for future awareness events.

The total duration of the interactive session would be 90 minutes, inclusive of tea.

I just signed online petition. BTW, is there any panel in India to decide on new laws? Will there be any review on monthly, quarterly or yearly basis to make amendments to existing law? If they are there, what are they doing? I am still under impression that there is some law. Thanks for enlightening us with good information.

I stay in Hyderabad and i did not see cases as such here..if i find something, certainly i am going to join hands with you and form ELAAN in hyd.
