I am sure that the instis could do a better job by publishing the criteria of shortlisting as well as the cut-offs as of last year (similar to as it is done for CAT now). But I guess the info is available in forums like these.
But to look at it from another perspective, even the CAT candidates are pretty much shortlisted on the basis of the CAT scores, and for IIM-A, once you are in the interview pool , it really does not matter to them if you are there on teh basis of CAT or GMAT. The only time they remember is when you need to pay the fees!! |
@rvishwa - I entirely agree with you. My only point was that, not just the IIMs, but any institute should clearly specify what their criteria is for making the cut for interviews and of being admitted. If the IIM-A does not consider any GMAT below 760, then it should clearly state that the average GMAT score is 770 or whatever that number happens to be. Consequently, students with a 720 and 730, albeit good scores, will hesitate from applying and will consider other schools instead. $100 can be better spent elsewhere. And I don't it's fair to expect candidates to glean information from such forums. It's a possibility but certainly not an inevitability, and I for one certainly did not know that if my GMAT score were short by even 10 points, I would not have made the cut for the interview and would never have been offered an admit. And back to Devarathi's complaint, IIML should have mentioned what their cut-off AWA score was if they indeed had one.
But yes you are right. Once the candidates are selected for the interviews, then their scores (should i hope) become inconsequential and they are considered on par with all other interviewees.
