I am not sure about this article's validity.. Was watching TV and I can confirm that IIMC and IIMA at least are delayong their results by at least one week.. Saw the respective institutes directors' say this..
Some earlier posts had said that IIMC will declare their results tomorrow itself.. I wish that was true.. But if the director says the results are delayed by one week, they are delayed..

Only thing left now to do is chill-out now and wait for all this shi# to get sorted out...

One more thing, none of the TV channels have yet said anything abut the reported comments by Mr Harish Salve.. That gives me further doubts about the above mentioned report...

Re: SC Upholds OBC Quota - 10-04-2008, 06:30 PM

One Complete Year, still issue is the same...2006, we discussed a lot, lot & lot still nothing happened..There were some scape goats in the process...2007 atleast the final verdict has come..but still we are discussing on the same thing on which we dont have control..Last year, we even went to Media, but stay Order remained..IIM results came late..This year, situation is better, but the point is to whom this Judgement is favouring..Iam sure if you elimiiate creamy layer, you can actually count the no of OBCs who are eligible to get the benefit.Govt is happy that it can use this issue as a carrot for the upcoming elections..The Anti Reservation guys would be happy as they know that without Creamy layer in OBC Quota, its as good as 99% of Junta forced to apply under GC..YET AGAIN..THE SCAPE GOATS HERE ARE STUDENTS...For General the results are delayed..For OBCs the results will hang/be denied as they might be asked to prove their eligibility .....Have a brave heart & face it..Dont get bogged down....Remember this issue is not new, there were people before you who underwent the same treatment...

Red face Re: SC Upholds OBC , Results likely to be delyaed - 10-04-2008, 06:31 PM

Well i have gone through lot of views in this thread....

I would like to share something

Lets take my case
I quit my job 6 months before CAT to study for it....My parents completely supported me here
This was my first attempt and i had decided to do slog day in and day out to finally get enough confidence to do well (Basically get IIM calls)

Right through all my Simcats i scored 99+ consistently.. Felt fairly confident...
MY parents hopes rise....I continue working hard...

Finally the D-Day comes
I write the paper to the best of my ability
Expected a really really good score.....
Then the results come....

MY scorecard reads
QA- 99.31
DI - 98.01
VA - 81.03
OA - 99.33
No IIM CALLS

At that moment in time..i just cannot describe my feeling....
A feeling of emptiness came over me.....
For 2 hours i did not know what to do....
MY reaction was in total contrast to my parents...who were overjoyed at the prospect that there son had secured more marks than 99% of the aspirants.
I sat down and explained to my parents...that how my score was not was not enough to get me a call....I then mentioned about the various quotas in place.
My parents were definitely disappointed but they asked me to dream beyond the IIM`s

NExt come two killer blows.....
First one
I got to the post office to send my IMT form....i meet a guy there who was also sending certain documents to IIM B...
I get into a conversation with him..and he mentions that he is from the reserved category and has scored 87.92 percentile and has got 5 IIM calls...During the conversations he happened to mention that he basically just filled the CAT form for "TP"...and wrote it without studying..
HE sends the form and promptly drives off in his Honda Accord...

Imagine What i must have felt at that time....

Another cruel twist of fate
I download the CAT answer keys released by the IIMs...To my absolute horror there is a discrepancy of 10 marks in the verbal from what it should have been...I file an RTI... Still waiting for a response....
I still sit and brood over what the opportunity that i been denied.....

Well i have since moved on....trying to forget what has happened.....
Been positive throughout...managed to get good converts

But today on 10th April 2008 with this verdict i feel "Shattered"...I may not have anything to with the IIMs now...but u shudder to think about those who might want to follow my path and dedicate a part of their lives for CAT...I truly feel this verdict might just break the dreams of many future aspirants...

To all the current IIM call getters....I sincerely wish u guys all the very best to overcome this difficult period...You have my complete support in any agitation you may wish against this judgement....

PS: I have nothing against the reserved claases...but there is a limit fr everything...

Sorry for this long post...but i had to get it out!!!

I am suprised at the kind of confusion that is prevailing even amongst the elite judicial community

Salve is supposed to be a top-notch lawyer and obviously has gone through the entire 200 page judgement. If that is the case, how come he is the solitary person saying no reservations in iims. All other news channels, print media say otherwise.

Well, I guess we can now start our RC practise which has been languishing for 5 months now by taking up the judgement pdf and analyzing

How are we going to take one more week of this crap really . To top it all, I fancy a situation arising wherin the iims say "we would do it this way, some x%" and Respectable HRD Min Arjun Singh with his ego re-kindled by this victory protesting and asking for a bigger pound of flesh in terms of seats..

Damn this system..

I have a strong premonition that there is somthing wrong with the way IIMs evaluate the OMRs. I had a huge discrepancy in my marks and even lot of other puys who had the same problem filed an RTI. But nothing materialized. Probably we should file a case and only then they may oblige.

Re: SC Upholds OBC , Results likely to be delyaed - 10-04-2008, 06:55 PM

Frds,

I don't think this judgement will effect the chances on General candinates in a negative manner, atleast for this year.

This year, at max, we can expect a reservation of 9% at IIMs. Guess OBCs anyways make 9% of general students. Hence in a way, general students will get benefitted.

Example of IIM A

In case there was no reservation; General seats = 186 which probably includes ard 20 OBC students.
Hence in reality, it would be 166 general seats and 20 OBC seats

Now when there is reservation, General seats = 192 and OBC seats = 17

Hence essentially due to reservation general seats hav actually increased by 20-25.

Kindly share your thoughts on this!!!

The provisions of Section 3 of this Act shall not
apply to
(a) a Central Educational Institution established in
the tribal areas referred to in the Sixth Schedule
to the Constitution;
(b) the institutions of excellence, research
institutions, institutions of national and strategic
importance specified in the Schedule to this Act;
Provided that the Central Government may, as and
when considered necessary, by notification in the
Official Gazette, amend the Schedule;
(c) a Minority Educational Institution as defined in
this Act;
(d) a course or programme at high levels of
specialization, including at the post-doctoral level,
within any branch or study or faculty, which the
Central Government may, in consultation with the
appropriate authority, specify.

This is part of judgement..I guess only doctoral programs are not in reservation purview..

PS:Me not supporter of resevations

I guess this cools down some ppl..nothing is happening to general seats..

20. Section 5 of the Act mandates the increase of seats in the
Central Educational Institutions by providing reservation to
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward
Classes. Section 5 reads as follows:-
"5.(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in clause (iii)
of section 3 and in any other law for the time being in
force, every Central Educational Institution shall, with
the prior approval of the appropriate authority, increase
the number of seats in a branch of study or faculty over
and above its annual permitted strength so that the
number of seats, excluding those reserved for the
persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the
Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes, is
not less than the number of such seats available for the
academic session immediately preceding the date of
the coming into force of this Act.
